Literacy Council of White County, AR The Literacy Council of White County is a non-profit organization dedicated to adult literacy.

The Literacy Council of White County is a non-profit 501 (c) organization that offers FREE tutoring to adults in Reading and English. We serve both Basic Literacy Students and ESL students in the White County, Arkansas area. We also operate Second Time Around Books, which is a used book store. All books are donated, and all funds earned from the books goes to the Literacy Council to help buy tutoring supplies and other tools necessary for running the Literacy Council.

We are happy to provide the life skills classes at WCDC as part of the grant through ARCare.

About a year ago, we began a pilot program at the White County Detention Center focused on reducing recidivism through a variety of in-custody interventions. The federally funded grant program partners with Arcare to provide qualifying inmates with life skills classes, healthcare interventions, and follow up after incarceration.

Today, we announce an expansion of that program by adding John 3:16 Ministries as an available resource. Participating inmates who struggle with addiction and are nearing release may transition from our custody to John 3:16 Ministries, where they will receive additional structure and scaffolding as they seek to build a life of sobriety and peace.
