Vote has been delayed to Feb 9th! That means another opportunity to make your voice heard πŸ—£οΈ Protect our sensitive Los Cerritos Wetlands and ask for a full environmental review (EIR)! This proposed solar farm project will damage 5 acres of habitat, benefit private oil operations, and make it harder to restore this area in the future. Bright spot alert ✨ the California Migratory Bird Protection Act is now permanent! Across California, Audubon supporters mobilized for the millions of migratory birds that rely on a safe Pacific Flyway. Community chapters in key districts called their lawmakers, and supporters sent thousands of letters urging action on Audubon co-sponsored AB 454 to ensure lasting migratory bird protections. ⁣
⁣
Why this matters: ⁣
⁣
🐦 In the Central Valley alone, California hosts 65 million migratory landbirds in the spring and 48 million in the fall.⁣
⁣
🐦 For 100+ years, the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) helped protect birds and supported recovery after disasters like the Exxon Valdez oil spill. ⁣
⁣
🐦 When federal commitment weakened in 2018, California created its own protections, but they were set to expire automatically in January. ⁣
⁣
🐦 AB 454 permanently locks in durable state safeguards that migratory birds can rely on. ⁣
⁣
Thank you, Assemblymember Ash Kalra, our community chapters, partners, and every advocate who spoke up! 🫢 Tap the link in our comments to learn more and celebrate with us.
