Red String Foundation Red String is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to making a positive difference in the communities that we invest in.

Red String Foundation: EIN: 84-4020796

The Red String Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit 501(c)(3) corporation. We believe that every life deserves to be happy and meaningful, and that people can improve their own lives when provided with the necessary skills, knowledge, support, and access to resources. The Foundation is dedicated to making a positive difference in the communities that we

invest in. The Foundation provides grants nationally to other qualified Tax Exempt 501(c)(3) Organizations with a priority to partner with charities that have proven experience in helping to improve livelihoods especially among the poor, disadvantaged, and disenfranchised, and whose mission, objectives, and values closely align with the Foundation's. Foundation Focus Areas:

Children and Youth: We support early learning educational programs in both STEM and the Arts that teach and empower children to feel valued, capable and self-confident. Communities: We support neighborhood and community-based programs and services that advances the educational and well-being of individuals and families to help them in their journey forward. Seniors: We support senior living and care programs that promote the family's general welfare and enhance the quality of life of older adults that enable them to lead joyful, fulfilling, and meaningful lives. Because Red String's objectives and focus areas cover a diversity of issues, it is different than the typical nonprofit charity that usually focuses on a singular issue. This diversity allows us and you to not only provide support to a wide range of issues facing our neighborhoods and communities, but also gives us a lot of flexibility to adapt to an ever changing world and focus our energy and grant dollars to the areas needing the most help.

Our 5th Annual Red String Get Together and Online Auction was filled with sunshine, good food, and the kind of generosity that reminds us why community matters. With your support, we raised over $27,000 for our Grants Program, helping local charities in the communities we call home. Thank you to every attendee, donor, bidder, volunteer, and local business for making this event so meaningful. We are truly grateful. ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy Lunar New Year! ๐ŸŽŠ ๐ŸŽ‡

2026 is recognized in the Chinese zodiac as the Year of the Fire Horse. This designation comes from the traditional sexagenary cycle, which combines the 12 zodiac animals with the five elementsโ€”Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Waterโ€”forming a 60-year cycle. While Horse years occur every 12 years, a Fire Horse year appears only once every 60 years.

The Lunar New Year in 2026 begins on February 17 and ends on February 5, 2027. The previous Fire Horse year was 1966, and the next will occur in 2086.

The Chinese zodiac system cycles through animals and elements simultaneously, which is why each animal-element pairing repeats every 60 years. Fire Horse years are traditionally associated with heightened energy compared to other Horse years due to the influence of the Fire element.

๐ŸŽท ๐ŸŽถ Bridging Generations Through the Joy of Jazz ๐ŸŽน ๐ŸŽธ

Toes were tapping, people were dancing, and the room was alive with the joy and rhythm of music at the Long Beach Senior Center auditorium. Over 80 people of all ages attended the event and were treated to the music of Jazz Angels' young musicians playing classics like Kenny Burrellโ€™s 1963 Chitlins con Carne, Duke Ellingtonโ€™s 1942 C-Jam Blues, and Warโ€™s 1975 Low Rider.

Red String Foundation Collaboration Grant Project with Long Beach's The Heart Of Ida, Jazz Angels, and the City of Long Beach proudly presents the 2025 Intergenerational Mixer Summer Concert Seriesโ€”a celebration of connection across generations through the power of music.

The talented young musicians of Jazz Angels dedicated themselves to six practice sessions in preparation for this special event.

Meanwhile, the staff of Heart of Ida, in partnership with the City of Long Beach, thoughtfully designed and coordinated the gathering.

Congratulations to Ellie on being selected for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica inaugural Junior Youth of the Year award.

We are proud to be a sponsor of this wonderful event and recognition, and even more so, we are grateful to have the opportunity to give this award in memory of Margaret "Dodie" Bushee (October 10, 1940 - January 4, 2024), a lifelong educator, community leader, and Red String supporter.

March 6, 2025Every year, Club teens participate in Youth of the Year, the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica's signature leadership program. But they, and we, believe that itโ€™s never too early to start learning to be a leader. This year, with the support of the Red String Foundation, the Boys and...

On February 22, we honor and pay tribute to Jeff Adachi on this sixth anniversary since his sudden and unexpected passing in 2019. Red String's Jeff Adachi Legacy Project, established in 2020, aims to pay homage to Jeff's legacy, drawing inspiration from his own words and experiences, and fueled by his fervent desire to make a meaningful impact on as many lives as possible.

Since its inception, the JALP has distributed over $60K in grants to charities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Outside of the JALP, the foundation has distributed over $210K in grants to charities within California and Washington working with at-risk youth to improve educational and life outcomes, assisting low-income families become more self-sufficient, and caring for home-bound elderly persons.

But creating a lasting legacy has been a real challenge. We had big hopes the JALP could be a catalyst to leverage the communityโ€™s support for Jeff to carry forward his ideals, and in the process, create a movement. We have yet to create the buzz we had originally hoped for, but remain confident that in time, we will be able to do just that.

February 22 will mark the sixth year since my brother, Jeff, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away, and the fifth year since starting our Jeff Adachi Legacy Project (JALP). The JALP was established to honor and pay tribute to Jeff's lifelong fight for a more just, equal, and compassionate society by...
