Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc.

Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc. 501(c)3 Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc. (OHAR), with offices located near Dallas, Texas is a non-profit animal welfare organization started by Jim and Bettye Baker.

After doing rescue on a personal level most of their lives, OHAR was established in 2006 as a non-breed specific rescue with the intent to help abandoned or injured animals. As members of the Metroplex Animal Coalition OHAR also works closely with the Metroplex Animal Shelters to rescue highly adoptable dogs and cats subject to euthanasia when the shelters run out of room. is a registered Petsmart

Partner. Applicants are screened and humane education provided to new homes on pet care and the long term commitment to this new family member. We also have rescued dogs requiring wheelchairs that have become therapy dogs that go to Baylor Rehab Centers on Tuesdays and Thursdays to encourage disabled patients and they also got to autistic gyms and work with autistic children. OHAR also participates and supports activities sponsored by the Metroplex Animal Coalition and other humane organizations to better the lives of all animals. We provide these services based solely on the generosity of public and private donations and rely on volunteers to help at our adoption events. Volunteers are always encouraged and very welcome!!! Our Mission is:
Compassion in Action
To show by example. The simplest ways to make a difference in the lives of animals.

🐾 Meet Ace (aka Bo) — the sweetest, most easygoing boy you’ll ever meet! 💙

He’s the definition of easy:
🌿 Easy on leash
☕ Easy to take along to restaurant patios or garden tours
🐶 Easy around other dogs
👧 Easy around kids

Ace is a low-key, happy guy who just wants to be your steady companion through it all. If you’re looking for a dog who fits effortlessly into your life (and heart), Ace is the one for you! 💕

We need a little help from our friends! 🐾 The cats at OHAR deserve some love, too — but their posts don’t get much attention, and it’s been months since anyone has reached out about adopting one of our amazing felines.

Take Sweetie, for example — she’s as loving and social as they come! 💕 This affectionate girl dreams of being someone’s lap cat and snuggling up every night. She’s great with other cats and absolutely adores kids.

Can you make Sweetie’s dream come true by adopting her? If you can’t adopt, please share this post to help her find her forever home!

🐾 It’s Animal Shelter Appreciation Week! 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the heart and soul of animal rescue — the shelters and the incredible people who keep them running. ❤️

At Oak Hill Animal Rescue, more than 35 animals currently call our shelter home. Each one is loved, cared for, and given the second chance they deserve thanks to our dedicated team and compassionate supporters. From daily feedings and medical care to walks, cuddles, and endless clean-ups — it takes an army of kindness to keep tails wagging and purrs rumbling. 🐶🐱

We couldn’t do what we do without YOU — our volunteers, fosters, donors, and adopters. Your continued support makes every happy ending possible.

Together, we’re changing lives — one rescue at a time. 💕

The photo on the left is almost too painful to see — that’s Liza in 2019, sitting in a city shelter, her skin raw and covered in sores from a severe allergy. She was miserable, forgotten, and losing hope.

Then OHAR stepped in. Liza went home with one of our amazing staff members, who nursed her back to health and showed her what it means to be loved. The photo on the right is the beautiful, happy, and hairy girl she became.

But now, Liza’s heart is breaking again. 💔 Her mama’s health is declining, and Liza is about to lose the only home and family she’s ever known.
This tender-hearted, deaf girl adores her people. She’s gentle, loving, and just wants to be near you — feeling safe, loved, and part of a family. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, and respectful kids.

Please, help us give Liza the forever home she’s waited her whole life for. 🐾

❤️ Visit OHAR.org to learn more about adopting Liza — before she loses the only world she’s ever known.

🎃👻 Spooky Season Safety for Your Furry Friends! 👻🎃

Halloween is all treats and no tricks… for humans! But for our pets, all the costumes, candy, and decorations can be a little scary. 🐾

Here’s how to keep your four-legged ghouls safe:
✨ Candy is a no-go – Chocolate and xylitol are toxic to pets.
✨ Costume check – Make sure outfits don’t restrict breathing, movement, or vision.
✨ Keep candles & lights out of reach – Nobody wants a scared cat meeting a flame!
✨ Safe space – Loud doorbells and trick-or-treaters can stress pets. Give them a cozy spot to chill.
✨ ID on point – Halloween distractions mean pets can slip out—microchips and tags are lifesavers!

Make it a treat-filled, safe night for all members of your family—even the furry ones! 🐶🐱

🐾 OHAR saves more than just cats and dogs… we save toads too! 🐸💚

During our fall cleanup, our volunteers discovered seven tiny toad friends hanging out in the dog yards! To keep them safe, we gently relocated them to a damp, cozy spot filled with leaf litter and moss — the perfect new toad haven. 🍂🌿

Here are three of the seven grateful little hoppers enjoying their fresh start!

Because at OHAR, every creature counts. ❤️
