Home Repairs for Sheila-Online Auction and Fundraiser We have a close friend who is in desperate need of home repairs, but is unable to pay because she is on a fixed income, disabled and a widow.

Tax Deductible Donations, and Donations for an Online Auction will be accepted. We have a close friend who is in desperate need of home repairs, but is unable to pay because she is on a fixed income. This 58 year old woman is disabled and a widow having lost her husband and caregiver in 2015. She has been predominantly in a wheelchair since 2010. She has been able to keep the roof over her head, a

nd with the help of food banks and local organizations has kept food on her table. Our friend lives locally, on her own, away from siblings who live in other states. She had always depended on her church family for support and aid, but as of 2015 she was no longer able to go to church, and because she wasn’t actively involved nearly all of those relationships ended. She has been a servant of the Lord since 1986 when she was introduced to Jesus, and God began using her in the areas of music and teaching. Because she is mostly housebound, she has just a handful of local friends, and only two who visit regularly. She has very nice neighbors who began cutting her yard when they found out she was having to pay someone and could only afford to have the lawn mowed once a month. Her only outings are to doctor’s appointments. She does not have cable or TV, and only through the generosity of a friend does she have a wi-fi hot spot so that she can communicate with family. Recently, her furnace broke down and needed to be replaced costing $4600. Half of the house is without electricity because she ran out of money trying to get it repaired. The electric and bathroom are the most necessary work to be done. Her wheelchair cannot fit into the bathroom, and she must walk in using the sink to aid, which is very difficult and causes excruciating pain. In addition to the inaccessibility, the floor is rotting through from a previously unknown leak beneath the bathtub and there is a small hole started. Any money raised will first handle the electric, then remodel the bathroom to be handicap accessible. Any money left over will pay down/off the furnace bill. There are also other small, but necessary, projects needing to be done around the house as they can be completed; Kind of a “Honey-Do” list. If you are able to donate money, time, service, or something for the auction, we would greatly appreciate your generosity
If you would like to give an auction item, please note we will ask the donations to be dropped off by March 15 (please message us for pick up or drop off location)

Hey all. Things are moving along much better now. Sheila ironed out some things with the contractor and we got that crazy tub alignment fixed much better. It’s been slow going but the end is in sight! These are pictures from a few days ago. I’ll add more by Friday. The sink has been cut down at the bottom to make it easier to roll a wheel chair up to it. And a shelf has been added to the back of the sink. Rails have been placed in the shower. The toilet has been turned to not face the tub. Soon, rails will go up near the toilet to make getting up and down easier. The tile is down on the floor, but all tile needs to be grouted yet.

Hey all. We haven’t forgot you. This has been a long, slow process, sadly. The contractor that was hired sold himself to be someone he isn’t. Late shows, no shows, 3 hour work shifts, drs appointments, dental appointments, going to New York with no warning to pick up a baby and then this picture to give you an idea of his ability. It’s a train wreck with bodies. It’s so horrible you want to look away but so incredible that you have to look. Sheila is working out what to do, but of course she doesn’t want to be the bad guy. We’ve pointed things out and this guy has a chance to redeem himself. We have to believe something good will come from this. Please pray that good will come. 👏

And here is where we are. The cloudy look is the drywall dust that the fan is kicking up. On Friday, the wall by the window is going up and the old floor is being ripped out to lay new floor joists. I’ll report more as it happens.

This center wall is coming down and going to the back wall in the bedroom. The wood standing in the center is a make-shift support for when the wall comes down.

Hey everyone. Demolition has begun! A wall is coming down, the carpet was torn out, and tomorrow supports will go up to continue the demolition and add to structure strength while a new wall is framed out. The bathroom is being enlarged into what was a bedroom to allow for a walk in shower, an accessible sink/vanity, and room for a wheelchair and scooter to maneuver. 🥳🥳

Great News!
The first part of destruction/construction is beginning on Wednesday. A wall will be coming down and supports going in. This is part of enlarging the bathroom to allow room for a wheel chair accessible room.

This will be an easily navigable bathroom. There will be a roll-in shower with a bench, a separate tub, a drawered sink vanity that can be rolled up to, a toilet with support bars for safe standing/transferring, and a closet.

As of yet, there is no answer as to how long this project will take. If there is any money left over, other things still need updating… electricity to part of the house, a new supportive mattress, some floor repairs. We’ll see how far we can get.

Hi. We are a step closer in getting this bathroom done! The state has provided a grant to go along with the money we raised from the auction! 💗 A contractor came out to look and is willing to do work with us (We’ve had others look and determine they’d rather make their money on new builds somewhere else since this bathroom will need some real tlc to make it just the way we need it.) We need to get some new blue prints made, and then hopefully the work can start soon. We’re hopeful for a June start, but sometimes these things drag on for a while. Thank you for your support!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. We were waiting on several things to occur before we can start. Some of those things are personal, but of course this whole Covid business has hurt things. The price of materials went through the roof first and foremost. Since the last post, 3 contractors have looked at the job. One is a very busy big-name company who would like to help out but it is going to be a wait. The other 2 contractors are not necessarily situated to do the work in the time they would need to have the job completed. Sheila will need to stay in a hotel while the bathroom is torn apart which will be costly if it’s longer than a few days. We are hopeful that things will work out. When we have any definite details, we will post for sure. Thanks for caring and being a part of the journey. 😊
