Never Forget Brethren

Friday the 13th: The Origins

Every DeMolay knows the story behind the Friday the 13th and memorized the last words of Grand Master Jacques DeMolay while he was being burned at the stake at Haute Saone, France.

"We die innocent! The decree which condemns us is an unjust decree but in Heaven, there is an August Tribunal, to which the weak shall never appeal in vain."

October 13, 1307 - King Philip the Fair and Pope Clement authorized the order to arrest the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christs or the Knights Templars and accused them of Heresy. The real reason? Greed.

1314 - The Curse of Jacques DeMolay. He had been heard cursing King Philip and his family along with Pope Clement. As he experienced the agony of being burned alive Molay is said to have invoked a ‘curse’ calling to Christ to prove the Order’s innocence and bring its persecutors to the judgement of God.

Both King Philip the Fair and Pope Clement died later that year.
Pope Clement died just thirty-three days after Molay’s ex*****on. Seven months later King Philip himself became gravely ill and unexpectedly passed away on the 29th of November.

Jacques DeMolay died with his fellow knights by burning at the stakes on March 18, 1314.

Jacques DeMolay, The Last Grand Master of the Knights Templars. Namesake of the International Order of DeMolay or simply called, DeMolay International.

"Death Rather than Betrayal"

Freemasonry is NOT a religion however IT IS a brotherhood of men of all faiths who believe in a Sovereign Creator or Higher Power according to their own personal beliefs. (A belief is required, an Atheist cannot be a Freemason). Within our Lodges we DO NOT discuss religion or politics as these are two greatly divisive topics throughout the world. The beautiful thing about our gentle craft is we can sit together as men on the level without conflict. We don't know the religion or political affiliation of the Brothers sitting beside us... and that doesn't matter what we DO KNOW is that they strive to adhere to and abide by the same high morals and virtues that we do and THAT IS ENOUGH. It's truly a wonderful thing.
Psalm 133:1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!
