Seadrift Masonic Lodge #1098

As of December 6, 2024, Grand Master, Tommy F. Chapman has approved the merger of Seadrift #1098 into Lavaca #36, and the merger is official, effective as of this date. Grand Lodge will move all Seadrift members to Lavaca Lodge. No action will be required by the individual members. Please join us at Lavaca #36 on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

Lavaca Lodge #36 voted by supermajority to adopt the consolidation.

All the pertinent documentation has been collected and forwarded to Grand Lodge for the Grand Master’s sign-off, however I suspect with as close to Grand Communication as we currently are, that will not see this complete until sometime early next year.

In the meantime, we continue to meet on at our regular meeting time monthly until the process is complete. Please join us for fellowship on the first Monday each month until the consolidation is complete. Updates will be posted here as this progresses.

LODGE CONSOLIDATION UPDATE: It will still be several months before Seadrift #1098 officially merges with Lavaca #36. Please come join us in fellowship on the first Mondays each month. The next steps include: Reading of the declaration at Lavaca Lodge, a vote the Stated Meeting after that, and if passed at Lavaca, awaiting final confirmation from Grand Lodge.

On 8/5/24 the Brothers in attendance decided that it would be in the best interest of Masonry to consolidate Seadrift #1098 with Lavaca #36, and signed the declaration to consolidate. This process will take some time, and in the meantime, all are welcome to join us in fellowship at our regular meetings, the first Monday of the month.

The next step to read the declaration at the 9/2/24 meeting, adding it to the minutes, then delivering it to Lavaca #36 with some other required documentation to be read there at their next Stated meeting. This will most likely happen in September since L:avaca meets the 2nd Tuesday. After it is read, there will be an agenda item added to the next Stated Meeting (October's meeting) to hold the vote to accept the merger.

Once that is done, it goes to Grand Lodge and once the Grand Master signs off on it, the merger is complete and all assets go to the receiving Lodge.

NOTICE OF PROPOSED LODGE CONSOLIDATION:

Brothers:

You are no doubt aware of our dwindling numbers due to members moving, chronic health issues, passing away, demitting, or for other various reasons. This trend has been especially prevalent in the last year to 18 months.

Additionally, due to extremely low attendance at our June Stated Meeting, there was an insufficient pool from which to elect new officers. This caused the current officers to be held over for the 2024-2025 Masonic Year.

After much discussion at the July meeting, a motion was made, seconded and was passed by majority vote of members present that it is in the best interest of Masonry to begin the consolidation process of Seadrift #1098 into Lavaca #36.

Pursuant to the provisions and requirements of Article #245 of Grand Lodge Law, this communication – and the other “usual methods used by the secretary” – serves as 20-day notice that a vote to adopt consolidation will be held at the next stated meeting (August 5, 2024.)
