Our flock is HUGE!! And we're trying to get CHONK. Remember to be a good neighbor and walk around the flock! We stop on Seabrook Island every spring to refuel and build fat reserves in order to survive the rest of our journey north to the arctic.

Seabrook isn't like any other beach. That's why we call it home every spring! This is some of our flock right now. We don't always have our pretty red feathers on! When we arrive, most of us are still in our drab grey winter feathers. But as we rest and refuel on Seabrook, we will shed the grey and grow beautiful red feathers in their place.

We keep hearing about COVID-19 and . Keeping a healthy distance away is important for shorebirds like Red Knot too! That's why we stay on Seabrook in March, April, and May. People here know to walk around our flock.

Red Knot populations on the Atlantic coast are at an all time low. Seabrook Island and neighboring islands like Kiawah and Deveaux Bank are among the last places in the southeast where they can feed and rest undisturbed during their epic journey north. Red Knot stop here during March, April, and May because residents know the importance of respecting their space.

There are other places in SC that are very similar to Seabrook. Harbor Island is also notably important for Red Knot during their spring migration.
