It’s a long-standing but unofficial tradition that departments at the Home Office organize projects this time of year to spread holiday cheer and give back to those less fortunate. In 1951, associates from the Certificate Department provided gifts and food to needy families.

Tomorrow is “cutoff,” an event that happens twice a month at Woodmen of the World. Many of our associates work overtime on these days to make sure all our pending business is processed, meaning our members' insurance policies (we call them certificates) are in-force, their premium dollars are invested, and all records are updated. We want to make sure certificates get on the books as soon as possible, so we are prepared to act when our members need us. We pay close attention to our production numbers each and every day, and have since the days of handwritten certificates and reports typed on a typewriter. On March 31, 1934, we recorded our largest day of production for that time, nearly doubling the previous record just a few days earlier.

Our beloved hometown Omaha is celebrating its 160th anniversary this year – and back in 1954, Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society had a float in the centennial celebration parade (you’ll notice we have always been proud of our financial strength). And we’ll let you in on a little secret: we have a milestone of our own coming up next year, so stay tuned for some big anniversary celebrations!

Woodmen of the World has donated more than 2.5 million American flags across the United States to worthy non-profit and community organizations.
