EVERY MUNICIPALITY. EVERY COMMUNITY. EVERY RESIDENT. WE NEED YOU!

The fight against the rapid expansion of data centers across our valley is bigger than Olyphant. Bigger than Throop. Bigger than Archbald, Jessup, or any single municipality.

This is a COUNTY-WIDE issue, and it's time we start approaching it as a COUNTY-WIDE effort!

For months, residents have been attending council meetings, researching ordinances, questioning developers, speaking at hearings, and fighting to protect their individual communities.

But here's the problem: We've been fighting many of these battles separately, while data center development continues to expand across municipal boundaries.

What happens in Olyphant affects Throop. What happens in Throop affects Dunmore. What happens in Archbald affects Jessup.

We share the same valley, the same air, the same water resources, and the same concerns about our future.

It's time to bring everyone together, share what we've learned, coordinate our efforts, and develop a stronger, united strategy.

We need residents, grassroots organizations, community leaders, and concerned families from EVERY municipality at the same table.

This is about combining our knowledge, resources, voices, and efforts so that we're not fighting one isolated battle after another.

The developers have teams of attorneys, engineers, consultants, and investors working together. Imagine what we could accomplish if all our communities worked together with that same level of coordination!

You don't have to be an activist. You don't have to be an expert. You don't have to live next door to a proposed data center.

You just have to care about the future of our valley.

Bring your neighbors. Bring your family. Bring someone who hasn't attended a meeting yet.

‼️Our grassroots voices are making headlines and politicians need to listen.‼️

This new article features Lackawanna Citizens’ Overwatch Project (L.C.O.P.) alongside other grassroots community members who are choosing to write in Katie Muth for Governor.

People are exhausted from fighting to protect their communities from data center development. But we are still here. We are organizing, speaking out, and taking that determination to the ballot box.

Our votes belong to us. Politicians need to earn them by listening to the people who live with the consequences of their decisions. We want action that protects our health, our water, our air, and our communities.

Seeing L.C.O.P. and fellow grassroots advocates recognized in this article shows how far our voices are reaching. Every person who attends a meeting, shares information, or demands accountability helps build this movement.

As the midterm elections approach, many residents fighting data centers in Northeast Pennsylvania are skeptical of politicians from both parties.

Look at this map. The shaded area marks Throop’s approximately 351-acre data center overlay on environmentally zoned land. Driving Route 6 from Dunmore toward Jessup, the landfill is to your left. The land designated for potential data centers is to your right.

On the Throop side, the warehouse zoning request involves Theta Land Corp., a company affiliated with Louis DeNaples, and Core5 Industrial Partners. On the Olyphant side, the warehouse property was sold by a Triboro company managed by Charles DeNaples to Sansone Group’s ERCOR Triboro LLC. These are separate companies, and residents deserve clarity about who owns, develops, and makes decisions about this land.

Please understand what is happening in Throop right now: there is NO data center application. Meaning there are no plans to build a data center. The current zoning proceedings are NOT hearings on a data center application.

The recent proceedings are to allow warehouses on E-1 (environmentally zoned land), where the existing ordinance does not allow them. Theta Land and Core5’s September 22 application asks the borough to change what is allowed there while keeping the environmental zoning designation.

Keeping “environmental” on the map means very little if we keep changing what can be built there.

Why are residents worried about data centers when the application is for warehouses? Look at Olyphant. 👀

There, ERCOR Triboro wants to replace a plan for 4 approved warehouses with 7 proposed data centers. In June, the developer sued Olyphant, asking a judge to compel the borough to issue a zoning permit without going through the conditional-use public hearings required by its data center ordinance. Its attorney argued that those hearings would unnecessarily delay construction. 🙄

Think about that: a project approved for warehouses becomes a proposal for data centers and then the developer goes to court seeking to bypass the hearings where residents could question that proposal.

That is why “it’s only warehouses” or “we don’t build data centers” does not reassure people. This does not prove the same thing will happen in Throop. However, it does explain why the people are so worried.

To Throop Borough and Throop Zoning / Code Enforcement / Floodplain Administration: please understand why residents walk into those chambers upset. They are scared for their children’s health, their homes, their property values, and the community they love.

After months of feeling misled and unheard from neighboring municipalities, people arrive angry. That anger comes from fear, exhaustion, and the feeling that decisions about our future are being made without us.

I believe Throop’s data center ordinance has strong protections. I especially appreciate that it addresses infrasound. Please strengthen it with one more explicit safeguard:

“”A warehouse approval must never authorize data center operations. Any proposed conversion or change to a data center must require a new application, public notice, and the full conditional-use hearing and review process required for data centers. No automatic conversion. No using warehouse approvals to bypass data center hearings.”” Put it in writing.

If warehouses are truly the intention, this is a reasonable protection to give residents some peace of mind.

We are tired. We are frustrated. But decisions are being made now that our children will live with for decades.

Please don’t wait until all the trees are gone and the next proposal is on the table. Keep standing up for our valley.

Need another reason to write in Katie Muth for Governor? Take a look at these photos of her office.

Pride flags greet visitors, alongside signs reading “Billionaires Are Treading on All of Us” and “Democracy Dies in Dark Money.” From outside the building, you can see “NO AI DATA CENTERS” and “DATA CENTER MORATORIUM NOW! PASS SB1359” displayed in her windows.

Those messages matter to us: inclusion, accountability, and a clear call to stop the data center invasion. We were proud to bring our voices to Harrisburg and seeing those signs gave us another reason to keep speaking up.

L.C.O.P. attended the Stand Strong 5K today to support Stop Archbald Data Centers! It was a great turnout, and we had such a fun time coming together for our community.

We finished in 27 minutes, the WALK, not the run! 😂

Thank you to everyone who organized, volunteered, and showed up. We’re stronger when we support each other! 💪
