The Farmhouse Sanctuary lost a true legend.

Spy came to us from a friend that received him with a group of baby chicks to raise in her backyard. He was the classic scenerio of an "Oops Roo". He was loved by them for as long as they could. They knew they needed to find him a safe place to land once he started to crow.

The fate of most roosters is not usually the case. Their lives are often ended before they even have the chance to feel the grass under their feet.

Spy has been the patriarch of the sanctuary since we became a 501(c)3 non profit organization over 10 years ago. He lived 10 long liberated seasons with us.

He lived a very admirable life. Spy protected the flock like the warrior he was. He would alert the girls when blueberries were being offered, only to step aside to allow them first pick as they approached. A true gentlemen.

Spy had professional photos taken by my friend, Cristin Powers. He even once traveled to the news station to promote a comedy show fundraiser hosted by my friend, Teri G. This guy was famous!

Even in his senior years, he still watched over his flock mate, Cecilia. She is the last hen in our care from the original farmhouse. His determination was an inspiration to us all.

Spy's passing weighs heavy on our hearts. I'm forever grateful for the love he shared with us and the time we spent together. Rest in power, Spy ✨

We wanted to thank you all for helping us get through another winter at The Farmhouse Sanctuary. The Kanuik Oil Company family held a campaign for the rescued animals here at The Farmhouse Sanctuary. They and their awesome customers donated 5¢ from every gallon of home heating fuel ordered during that period.

Their care, kindness and generosity always warms our hearts. Kanuik oil is more than a business... They are a beacon of goodness throughout our entire community.

This year they contributed a whopping *$1000* to help continue our mission here of offering compassion and love to whomever finds their way to us. Our hearts are so full of gratitude. Thank you Joe, Rose, Lauren and every member of the Kanuik oil family. 💓
