This league is for SSD students grades 5th-8th.

This league is replacing West Scranton Youth Basketball and will be focused on player development with trainers along with players and coaches from the varsity program working with players for the first five weeks before games start.

A 7 week league season will follow training.

Since this is the leagues first attempt at this level of player development, it will only be available for grades 5th-8th this year. Hopefully it can be expanded to other grades after this first year.

However, for children in grades below 5th, there are some other great leagues such as Holy Rosary, Holy Cross and Riverfront.

WSYB Announcement

In an attempt to provide a more meaningful and training-focused basketball experience, we are making some changes to our league. We want to offer something different for the kids in our league.

We have been working with members of the High School Basketball Program to restructure our league to focus more on player development. Our vision is to have basketball trainers along with our high school coaches and players involved in this process.

This week will be the final week for our D Division and the start of playoffs for all other divisions.

D League games will be at 12:00 as normal.

Since all other divisions will begin playoffs we have updated the schedules to reflect the game times for this weekend and the updated game times for the championship games the following Sunday.

No league games this Sunday due to the Super Bowl.

We will pick back up next Sunday Feb 19th with the games scheduled for that day. Games that were scheduled for Feb 12th will not be made up.

West Scranton Basketball Booster Calendar Raffle.

Tomorrow is your last chance to buy tickets for the Basketball Boosters Calendar Raffle.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at either gym door. A drawing will take place everyday in February.

This is an extremely important fundraiser for our boys and girls grades 7-12th as it helps fund any off season leagues and tournaments and is crucial in helping provide our kids with the same opportunities available in other schools.

Picture Times - Please Share

We will be doing pictures this Sunday, Jan 15th.

Attached are the times for each team to go to the auditorium to have their picture taken as well as the order form.

Team pictures will be done by putting the individual pictures together so if you cannot make the time assigned to your team please still stop in the auditorium throughout the day to have your picture taken just make sure you know what division your child is in so you can tell the photographer.

I apologize for the early start but with 8 teams starting games at 12 it’s the only way we can get them all in.

Some picture times do run close or into game time starts but our D and C division both practice before playing their game so hopefully everything moves quickly and pictures are wrapped up before the game starts.

There was a typo on the schedule for this weekend for the C Division. At 12:00 the schedule shows team 3 vs team 3, it should read team 4 vs team 3.

Today is the first week of games. That also means we start having referees for all games in the C Division and up.

To help pay for this weekly cost we do charge $2 for adults attending any game. It’s only charged once for the day so if you are coming back for additional games don’t forget to ask for a ticket.
