And another one! Recruitment is now open for Steamtown’s Youth Empowerment Stewards (YES) internship focused on accessibility and digital media!

This 52-week (1 year) position will build on the park’s accessibility work, including recommendations from the NPS PAVE accessibility team, with a focus on digital media, accessible visitor resources, and improving how visitors experience and plan for a visit to Steamtown.

This will also create some great opportunities for collaboration with our Chesapeake Gateways Ambassador as both positions get underway later this year.

Chesapeake Gateways Ambassador – Recruitment Underway

Recruitment is now underway for the Chesapeake Gateways Ambassador position at Steamtown NHS through the Appalachian Conservation Corps. Applications will be accepted through October 11, with recruitment and selection activities continuing through October 23. The target start date is November 30.

This year-long position will support Steamtown's participation in the Chesapeake Gateways Communities Initiative, working alongside park staff and community partners to help strengthen connections among the region's heritage, recreation, tourism, and community resources. The Ambassador will provide some dedicated capacity to help move our Gateway Community work from assessment and planning into implementation.

🚂 This Event Was So Successful It Blew Our Minds Here At Scranton Strong! Please Share This Post 🩷

Who could ever forget when the legendary Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 rolled into the Steamtown National Historic Site this past June? Seeing the world's largest operating steam locomotive up-close and even standing side-by-side with Scranton's own resident Big Boy No. 4012 was an absolute dream come true for rail fans and history lovers alike! We actually had the best time viewing 4014 and 4012 in person during this unbelievable event!

The historic "Big Boy Reunion" brought an incredible wave of energy, excitement, and visitors to our community including all of you, our awesome subscribers and followers who came out of state to visit their event.

💖 Staggering Attendance: The event drew an estimated 110,000 visitors to Scranton during its two-week stopover, nearly doubling Steamtown's typical annual attendance in just a short window!
💖 Massive Economic Impact: According to the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, the locomotive's visit generated a phenomenal $16 million to $17 million in economic impact throughout Northeast Pennsylvania, heavily boosting our local shops, restaurants, and hospitality businesses.
💖 Downtown Parking Success: The massive influx of travelers also energized our local infrastructure, driving high demand and generating approximately $67,000 in revenue for city on-street parking spaces and downtown garages as guests packed the streets to catch a glimpse of railway history.

Visit Beautiful Downtown Jessup Pennsylvania this Saturday for the annual block party! Enjoy music, great food, and shopping the vendors and local businesses. Special train from Steamtown National Historic Site arrives at 2pm at Station Park. Stop by the shop to see our HO scale model railroad and shop the store. A big thank you to all who came out to Railfest 2026. It warms our hearts more than a firebox to see the support from the community and beyond. What a way to celebrate our 40th anniversary with the National Park Service.
