Together, we create life changing wishes for Arizona children with critical illnesses. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Arizona is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in Phoenix in 1980. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Arizona is the founding chapter of Make-A-Wish, and has granted more than 6,500 wishes to date.

Samantha had dreamed of seeing sea turtles for as long as she could remember. After years of treatments, surgeries and hospital stays caused by a severe gastrointestinal disorder, her wish brought moments of joy when she needed them most. 🐢💙

“Turtles have always been my favorite animal,” Samantha shared. Her wish to go to Hawaii and see sea turtles felt almost too good to be true. “Even when we were in the airport, I was like, ‘Is this really happening?’”

This summer, Make-A-Wish Arizona is working to help grant 100 wishes in 100 days for local children with critical illnesses like Samantha as part of Summer of Wishes. ⭐️

Summer is one of the busiest times for wish granting, and with more 540 wishes being actively planned across Arizona, the need has never been greater.

Meet wish kid Aiden! When Aiden qualified for Make-A-Wish, he knew exactly what he wanted for his wish: a gaming shopping spree. With dreams of becoming a streamer one day, he imagined building his very own gaming setup.⁠

On his wish day, Aiden visited Best Buy and GameStop to pick out everything he needed, including a new PC and games. Now, his wish brings him even more joy and lets him play and connect with friends and family online.⁠

💫 For Dave Upchurch, volunteering with Make-A-Wish Arizona started with a simple willingness to try something new while giving back. What he found instead was something that would stay with him for years. 💙

“I was probably the least likely person to have volunteered for Make-A-Wish,” Dave said.

Without children of his own and little experience around serious illness, Dave wasn’t sure what to expect. The idea of working closely with children facing critical health challenges felt unfamiliar, even outside his comfort zone, yet he showed up anyway.

“After that first wish, I was hooked,” he said.

What once felt unfamiliar has become a place where he continues to return, not out of obligation, but because of what it gives back. “It’s just a fun, fun place to be.”

For those considering volunteering, Dave keeps his advice simple. “It’s going to change your life. It’s going to change the way you see the world.”
