When schools ignore biological reality, girls pay the price.

Kallie fell in love with wrestling when she was four years old and never looked back. But one match during her sophomore year changed everything.

At a girls' wrestling tournament in December 2025, Kallie took to the mat to face her opponent. She was not told that she would be wrestling a male. During the match, he s*xually assaulted her.

When Kallie and her mother reported the incident to the school, the adults responsible for protecting her—her coaches, her school, and district officials—failed to take meaningful, timely action.

Under Washington law, school personnel must report a s*xual assault to law enforcement within 48 hours. Instead, they remained silent for nearly two months. That is outrageous and unacceptable.

What happened to Kallie was not a fluke. It was the product of a policy built on a lie. Washington requires schools to let males who identify as female compete in girls' sports.

Federal law is supposed to prevent exactly this. Title IX was written to give girls fair and safe athletic opportunities, not to force them to compete against males.

Would you want your kindergartener learning this? An estimated 500 school districts in 13 states are using this curriculum.

Under the "3Rs" curriculum, kindergarteners are introduced to explicit body-part terminology. First graders complete a worksheet on reproduction called “Can This Make Babies?” Second graders are shown graphic anatomy illustrations.

The curriculum also encourages children to reject “a binary construct of gender” and tells them that their anatomy doesn’t determine whether they’re a boy or a girl. This is not just “health education.”

The school district itself admits the content is controversial, yet it specifically chose an opt-out model rather than an opt-in one to include as many students as possible in the lessons.

Many parents have never seen the lessons, and of those who have, many reported inadequate notice, an inconsistent opt-out process, and even opt-out requests that were not honored.

But it’s parents—not schools or distant curriculum publishers—who have the right and responsibility to decide what their children learn and when. Roaring Fork and school districts nationwide must respect that.

As the school year kicks off, now is the time to exercise your right to direct your child’s education.
