Connecting Butterflies Foundation

Connecting Butterflies Foundation Connecting Butterflies Foundation seeks to provide awareness, education, and medical research for connective tissue disorders.

Connecting Butterflies Foundation seeks to provide education, support, and medical research for connective tissue disorders.

Individuals affected with EDS, an inherited disorder, have variable hyperextensibility of the skin, minimal to moderate joint hypermobility of fingers and toes, purple discoloration of the skin particularly on the front of the tibia due to the passage of blood from ruptured blood vessels into subcutaneous tissue, and cigarette paper scars. Early onset periodontal disease may also be found in those with EDS type VIII. Connecting Butterflies Foundation has three main objectives:

(1) the Foundation will initially provide knowledge of the disorder primarily to the academic community. (2) the Foundation will strive to provide information and support to those individuals and families affected by EDS type VIII. (3) the Foundation will propose and participate in medical research to discover the exacting gene and protein causing EDS type VIII in hopes to eliminate the genetic proliferation of the disorder. (4) the Foundation will strive to determine the protein causing EDS type VII.
