Yatom: The Jewish Foster & Adoption Network

Yatom: The Jewish Foster & Adoption Network A resource for Jewish families looking to foster or adopt a vulnerable child In the world today, there are millions of children without a home.

It is one of the most striking tragedies of our time. Without access to basic necessities, without access to a warm bed, or running water, millions of children are left to fend for themselves. It is a cruel, vicious way to grow up. In Jewish history, some of our greatest heroes have been orphans or grew up with adoptive families or in foster homes. The greatest teacher in history, Moses, was raise

d in a foreign household. Even the great prophetess Esther (pictured above) was an orphan. We have the power to stop this crisis. We can do so much to brighten the life of a child, to give him or her a safe environment to grow, to learn, to love. Join YATOM: The Jewish Foster & Adoption Network in the mitzvah of loving the ORPHAN.

No matter what side you are on in the immigration debate, ICE detainees deserve basic medical care while in U.S. custody. It's the law.

We're supporting a young undocumented immigrant mother now who was delayed prenatal care because she was scared of all the questions when she went to a clinic. Our closest partners found a safe place for her first prenatal appointment but sadly there was no fetal heartbeat.
Labor was induced and she was able to secure a burial spot at a cemetery. But her husband was just deported and she is ill and caring for her toddler.
I share this sad story because it's easy to forget the consequences of certain rhetoric and of the culture of fear that has been so intensely fostered. Whatever our political positions are on immigration policy, I hope we can all find ways to dial down the rage and make it safer for those in hiding to breathe and seek medical care when it is desperately needed.

Join Caleb on his journey of discovery as he learns what it means to be part of a new family, while Mama Wolf works tirelessly to secure their home. This piece challenges how societies rationalize passivity in the face of global suffering — and reframes moral responsibility as collective, not individual. You can read The World’s Children Are Being Held Hostage by YATOM’s president, Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz linked in our bio.

What if a single moment could change a child's entire world?

The FDA just approved a first-of-its-kind gene therapy that gives children born deaf the ability to hear for the very first time. In one trial, 16 out of 20 children saw meaningful improvements. For many families, it's been described as the most surreal and joyful moment of their lives.

As a community devoted to the well-being of children, we are inspired by every advance that expands what's possible for kids who need it most. At YATOM, we believe every Jewish child deserves a safe, loving, permanent home and a future full of possibility. Read full NYTimes article here:

The treatment, the first of its kind, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on Thursday. “Our baby was born deaf, and now he can hear,” said one parent.

Dr. Mayim Bialik sits down with Rabbi Shmuly for a thoughtful exchange. They reflect on the critical role of community support systems and issue a clear call to action around the importance of YATOM’s work.

Together, they highlight how YATOM makes a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families, providing stability, connection, and care when it is needed most. Their message underscores a shared belief: investing in support for young people is not optional, but essential to building stronger futures. Support YATOM today: YATOM.org/donate
