The School of Architecture

The School of Architecture TSOA is an independent, accredited school of architecture based in Scottsdale, AZ
(326)

The School of Architecture was formally initiated in 1932 when twenty-three apprentices came to live and learn at Taliesin. The sources of this educational philosophy have roots that go back much further than the ’30s. The program of the School, while remaining true to its heritage, has evolved through experience and the need to address our changing times.

Today we celebrate the 159th birthday of Frank Lloyd Wright — architect, teacher, and one of the most influential creative minds in American history.

In 1932, Wright founded a living school rooted in the belief that great design emerges from a deep connection to the land and to life.

That mission continues today through The School of Architecture — and it continues because students loved it enough to fight for it. Students rallied together and refused to give up on what Wright started.

That kind of dedication deserves our support. Your donation helps ensure our one-of-a-kind institution stays open and thriving for the next generation of architects and thinkers.

Big congratulations to The School of Architecture President Chris Lasch and Adjunct Faculty Andrew Gonzales!

Their New York City and Tucson-based studio, Aranda\Lasch, has been named the 2026 Interior Design Magazine NYCxDesign Award winner in the Small Apartment category.

Their project, Garden Apartment, was designed with a growing family in mind — centering the home around its connection to a private garden, a truly rare find in urban living. We're so proud to have these talented designers as part of our community.

Garden Apartment is designed to accommodate the needs of a growing family. The project centers on the home’s connection to their garden – a rare opportunity in the city.

In 2022, LANZA Atelier brought something quiet but essential to The School of Architecture at Arcosanti: the practice of looking. Participants in their workshop were asked to observe and draw trees, plants, and the living landscape all around them. Not as a warm-up exercise, but as a way of learning to see.

It's the kind of practice that shapes an architectural sensibility over a lifetime.

LANZA Atelier is recognized as the architects behind the 2026 Serpentine Pavilion in London. Their design, A Serpentine, is a sinuous, undulating brick structure inspired by the crinkle-crankle wall, a centuries-old form that moves through space the way a river moves through a landscape.

We love seeing the studio's work recognized on the world stage, and we're proud that their time at Arcosanti is part of their story. Congratulations, Isabel and Alessandro — we can't wait to see A Serpentine in London this summer.

The Cast of Characters Design Seminar approaches architecture as a collection of figures, creatures, caricatures, characters, or monsters - spatial, material, and narrative objects that contain the cavity for life.

For the final review, Dr. Renata Hejduk joined Jimenez Lai in Suite J, bringing her perspective into dialogue with The School of Architecture students as they presented the semester's work.
