A final update on our gifts of appreciation to the Wildland Fire Fighters. Our gifts and cards were delivered this morning!! I read this letter to the teams already at work today. There were smiles and hugs shared!

Thank you to Marie Peck of the Fetch Foundation for transporting our mountain of gifts! And thank you to everyone who supported these Gifts of Gratitude!!!

Dear Wildland Firefighters, Hotshots and All Who Stand on the Front Lines,

With deepest gratitude and admiration, I write to thank you for the extraordinary courage, endurance, and sacrifice you show in the face of wildfire. When flames threaten our homes, our property, and the fragile beauty of the desert we cherish, you answer the call without hesitation. You work in extreme heat, choking smoke, and dangerous conditions, often for long hours and with little rest, to protect lives, land, and entire communities.

To every member of the firefighting teams, your strength, skill, discipline, and teamwork are nothing short of inspiring. You go where others cannot, endure what most never will, and remain steady in moments of chaos. Your efforts save not only buildings and belongings, but memories, livelihoods, wildlife habitat, and the desert landscapes that define and sustain our way of life.

Please know that your work is seen, your sacrifices are valued, and your service is deeply respected. Behind every line you hold and every home you help defend is a community that is profoundly thankful. We recognize that your commitment often comes at a personal cost—time away from family, physical exhaustion, and constant risk—and we do not take that lightly.

Thank you for your bravery. Thank you for your selflessness. Thank you for fighting to preserve our homes, our property, and our desert. Your service leaves a lasting mark not only on the land you protect, but on the hearts of all who live here.

Please accept these gifts of gratitude on behalf of the communities you have protected time and again. On a personal note, you saved my home, my miniature therapy herd, and my neighborhood more than once as the fires advanced. Two years ago, we were forced to evacuate, and flames reached neighboring homes, but your swift actions kept us safe.

With heartfelt appreciation from grateful communities;
Terry Holmes-Stecyk and the Tender Little Hearts Mini Tales herd

Community Update from Rural Metro Fire 🔥

We’re hearing from more and more residents across our area about homeowners insurance policies being canceled, not renewed, or becoming difficult to obtain due to wildfire risk.

This is impacting communities right here in our region—and many of your neighbors are being affected.

Right now, there is limited transparency from insurance companies on how wildfire risk is being evaluated. However, the impact on homeowners is very real—and growing.

To better understand what’s happening and advocate for fair solutions, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management is asking for input directly from residents.

👉 If this has affected you, please take a moment to speak up:
If you’ve had your policy canceled, not renewed, or struggled to find coverage, your experience matters and will help drive action.

There may also be opportunities for voluntary home assessments with fire professionals to help ensure insurance decisions better reflect actual conditions on the ground.
🚒 Our Commitment to You
Rural Metro Fire is committed to supporting our community and making sure your voice is heard. The more residents who respond, the stronger the case for fair and reasonable insurance solutions.
🙏 Thank you for helping us bring awareness to this important issue.

As the summer months approach and fire season has already started, the memories of past wildfire threats remain vivid for many in our community. The harrowing experience of emergency evacuations, like the one many faced at midnight two summers ago, serves as a stark reminder of the immense courage and relentless effort required to safeguard our homes and precious natural landscapes.

At the forefront of this critical defense are the wildland firefighters – a specialized and highly trained force of first responders. Equipped with advanced tools, strategic techniques, and an unwavering resolve, they bravely confront nature's fury. These dedicated men and women often labor for weeks in physically demanding, rugged environments, acting as the guardians of our communities and vital ecosystems. We, in particular, owe an enormous debt of gratitude to these heroes, many of whom travel from out of state to join our local Arizona teams, who have repeatedly protected properties bordering the Tonto National Forest and the McDowell Mountain Park

To honor their selfless service and express our profound appreciation as we enter this fire season, Terry Holmes-Stecyk, is assisting AZ Foothills 911, and is spearheading a community-wide initiative: **"Gifts of Gratitude."** This heartfelt program aims to assemble comfort kits, packed into 3-gallon Ziplock bags, designed to provide essential personal care and morale-boosting items for firefighters enduring physically grueling shifts.

While we've made a promising start, the need for contributions is substantial. We are incredibly grateful for the generous support already received: The Rio Verde Horsemen’s Association (RVHA) has committed $800, which will significantly aid in purchasing needed supplies. Additionally, SRP has contributed 50 chapsticks and sunscreen samples.

These donations are invaluable, but we still have a critical need for items such as electrolytes and eye drops, which are indispensable for maintaining hydration and eye health in smoky, dry conditions.

Beyond material contributions, a personal touch can uplift spirits immeasurably. As a local wildland firefighter recently shared: "The community support is what we appreciate even more! Seeing a big sign or getting notes/adorable hand-drawn pics from local elementary schools really puts a smile on our faces. I've kept every one I've gotten over the years." This powerful sentiment underscores that while practical items are invaluable, the profound impact of community gratitude on morale cannot be overstated. We strongly encourage you to include a handwritten thank-you note or a drawing from children; these thoughtful gestures are often cherished reminders of the people they are tirelessly working to protect.

We invite every member of our community to participate in these "Gifts of Gratitude." If you wish to contribute, please contact Terry directly to arrange a convenient drop-off or pickup. For those who prefer the ease of ordering items online for direct delivery, Terry can provide a mailing address upon request. Terry's cell phone is 480-318-3281. Let's come together to fill these bags and demonstrate the full extent of our community's appreciation for these extraordinary individuals!
