Jewish Women's Action Alliance Arizona

Jewish Women's Action Alliance Arizona We don’t just talk. We Take Action. Nationally, NCJW founded the country’s first birth control centers.

Formerly the National Council of Jewish Women Arizona (NCJW AZ), our organization has served this state for more than 100 years. In July 2026, we became an independent entity, allowing us to focus more effectively on the issues that directly impact our local communities. While our structure has evolved, our mission remains unchanged: to safeguard human and civil rights and improve the quality of l

ife for all Arizonans. We advance that mission through legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing on initiatives and referendums, and strategic legal action as intervenors on significant cases such as challenges to Arizona’s Civil War-era abortion ban, a fetal personhood law, the federal government’s transfer of sacred Apache land to a copper mining company, and the state’s wrongful termination of a mother’s parental rights

Reproductive healthcare has long been a cornerstone of our work. Here in Arizona, our legacy of community leadership includes helping establish the state’s first synagogue, now home to the Plotkin Cultural Center. We also helped create Jewish Family and Children’s Service, the Child Crisis Nursery (now part of Child Crisis Arizona) and the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program. In 2023, we launched our most ambitious initiative: Ruth Place, the first of its kind trauma recovery center for survivors of sexual violence that is quickly becoming a model for compassionate, trauma-informed care that empowers survivors to thrive. With a broad-based agenda that works across diverse communities, JWAAA remains distinct among organizations — courageous, compassionate, effective, and, above all, pioneering.

Legislative Alert!!‼️

The AZ Legislative Council will meet today (Tues. Aug. 18th) at 11:30AM to rewrite the description for the Prop 212 for the voter pamphlet as mandated by the AZ Supreme Court. If you have time to use your Request To Speak online portal, please go to the agenda in the Legislative Council drop down and make a public comment about keeping all language to describe PROP 212 neutral and free of partisan bias and manipulation.

If you have time to spare, please go to the Capitol and show up to represent the people’s ballot initiative.

As Arizona history has shown, the AZ Leg. Council’s Republican majority has manipulated ballot descriptions which led one pro-public school ballot initiative to be thrown off of the ballot by the AZ Supreme Court (see history) . We have seen this sequence of events before and should be proactive in urging this legislators to do the right thing and resist the urge to be bad-faith actors.

Please make your voice heard TODAY and send a direct voice mail message to the Senator President (Warren Peterson (602) 926-4136) and the Speaker of the House (Steve Montenegro (602) 926-3635) that we want neutral and unbiased language used to describe Proposition 212 in our voter guides.

“…As of July 1, the Arizona chapter officially severed its affiliation with the national organization and changed its name to the Jewish Women’s Action Alliance Arizona (JWAAA).”...
..””We did not want to merge and integrate, and we certainly didn’t want to dissolve,” Tamarkin said. “That left us the option of disaffiliating.”””...
..”According to Tamarkin, maintaining Arizona’s independent nonprofit status allows the organization to continue filing lawsuits, submitting amicus briefs, participating on advisory councils and responding quickly to state legislative issues without seeking approval from a national office.”
