“Lats” was his nickname in baseball and it’s what most of his friends called him. Anyone who knew our dad will tell you he was a funny, giving and loyal person - both on and off the field. To us, he was simply dad – but hardly simple. He worked very har
d to make sure he was always there for us: to coach us, to laugh with us and to be present at every school event. When he died on October 27, 2014, just weeks after his 48th birthday, we experienced heartbreak unlike anything we’ve ever known. But in the days after, we came to learn just how much our dad meant to so many people. We heard story after story about how he impacted the guys he played alongside as a USC Trojan baseball player and in the minor leagues and the many lives he touched through the years after baseball. Our dad was special. The Lats Legacy Foundation is proud to collaborate with our dad's beloved alma mater, the University of Southern California, to create the USC Lats Legacy Baseball Scholarship.
