We are delighted to share the testimonial from Janet Scheer about why giving to the Pardes Life and Legacy program is important to her.

The legacy program was a no brainer for me. I have no children – only grandchildren – so after they were taken care of, it was time to determine what was near and dear to my heart.

I am a firm believer in Jewish education having witnessed the results of it first hand when my husband was the head of Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School in Palo Alto. The number of children who identify as Jewish, marry a Jewish partner, bring children up Jewish, etc is staggering when children attend a Jewish Day School compared to those who do not. From what I observed, Pardes is a kind, nurturing school that provides children with a desire for life-long learning.

I would like to see these Jewish values continue long after I am gone (which I don’t intend to be soon!).

Like many Pardes parents, we grew up in older cities with well-established Jewish communities. In Baltimore and in New York, we attended public schools and still breathed plenty of Jewish air because Judaism was all around us. Our daughter has lived almost her entire life here in Arizona. Attending Pardes Jewish Day School is helping her develop a well-informed Jewish identity and understand her place in the world.

Our daughter has attended Pardes since kindergarten and we appreciate that she is receiving both an excellent secular education and the deep understanding and appreciation of Judaism that only a day school can provide.

As transplants who are committed to the future of Judaism in our adopted home, we think it is important to do what we can to assure the long-term health and prosperity of Arizona’s important Jewish institutions.

We are happy to have designated a gift to Pardes Jewish Day School’s Life & Legacy program. We hope you will consider making one too.

As parents of five young children, the most important decision we have made is choosing a school that puts them on a path to lifelong learning, a successful career, and being productive, compassionate members of our society. At Pardes, we have found just that. We find comfort in knowing that we a re sending our kids to a campus that respects all students, a nd provides a supportive and positive environment for learning and development. We have witnessed first- hand how the teachers and staff pay close attention to individual needs, strengths and challenges, while encouraging students to strengthen their Jewish identities.

With our Life and Legacy commitment, we hope and believe that Pardes will be able to maintain their atmosphere of creativity, growth, and Jewish values. " We consider ourselves the lucky ones. Our grandson is a Pardes graduate, and until their move from Arizona our granddaughter was a Pardes student and our daughter a devoted member of the leadership team.

Both my husband and I saw firsthand the daily impact Pardes had on our grandchildren through the little nuances and actions of our grandchildren which showed not only their academic success but their devotion to Judaism as well.

Every day we teach our children and now our grandchildren what is really important in life. To live your life not so people will remember what you had but what you did with what you had.

Why should that teaching stop at the end of our lives? Why wouldn't we want our children and grandchildren to remember these teachings even when we are no longer able to continue teaching? For that reason we have chosen to leave a gift through our estate to Pardes. This gift will continue our teaching.

When our children look back on what we did they can proudly say that we joined others to ensure that all the future generations will be able to learn in the same nurturing, supportive Jewish environment they found at Pardes.
