Salamith Foundation SALAMITH FOUNDATIONA non-profit charitable organization/social enterprise with the mission of empowering the lives of Women and Girls in Rural Haiti.

The richest 1% of the population controls nearly half of all of Haiti’s wealth
Haiti Ranks 149 out of 182 on the United Nations Human Development Index
And has a healthy life expectancy of 55 years for women and 53 years for men
Adult literacy

is about 62% and 78% of Haitians live on less than $2 US per day. Comparatively 1 out of 3 women in the world has no job and more than half a million worldwide are unable to read. More than 41 million school aged girl are denied a proper education. Our project will be run in the Plateau Central in Haiti a remote region not easily accessible to transportation. There are no cars and only a few families can afford the luxury of a mule. After the earthquake, no casualties or serious damages were reported in the area, however, thousands of refugees from the camps in Port-au-Prince has poured into the town and continue their exodus to date. The populations have substantially increased in the last 3 years, which has increased the load for needed services in the region. Due to its location in the high mountainous and the limited road access most NGOs prefers to establish in easier to reach areas like Port-au-Prince, Jacmel, Aux Cayes, Leogane, etc. Three years later, 2013, despite the enormous pledges of aid and support that grabbed media attention, many countries have not delivered. The devastating Haiti earthquake that killed 217,000 people and left 1.5 million homeless happened three years ago. For a year or so, the drama captured plenty of headlines and human interest; Although most of the people in camps has been relocated, several thousands remain in tent camps, and the country's infrastructure is still in under construction, but a lot remains to be done. A lot of that is due to the failures of the international community. Only half of the $13.34 billion in international aid allocated for Haiti reconstruction has been disbursed. And of that, only a small portion has gone to "reconstruction," strictly defined. Instead, the New York Times reported in December, "much of the so-called recovery aid was devoted to costly current programs, Haiti continues to have low life expectancy, high infant mortality, and high death rates due to the lack of access to basic health care and health awareness education programs.
