🎶 Happy National Bassoon Day!

Meet one of the orchestra’s most distinctive voices: the bassoon!

With its long wooden body, curved metal bocal, and double reed, the bassoon produces a rich, warm sound that can be mellow and mysterious one moment, playful and comical the next.

But don’t let its humorous reputation fool you. The bassoon can also be expressive, lyrical, and deeply moving.

🎼 Did you know? The bassoon is a double-reed instrument, meaning its sound is produced by two thin pieces of cane vibrating against each other. It often plays the lower lines in the woodwind section, adding depth and character to the orchestra.

From memorable melodies to surprising musical moments, the bassoon proves that the supporting voices can be just as fascinating as the stars of the show.

Today, we’re celebrating the musicians who bring this wonderfully versatile instrument to life! 🖤

🎟️ Want to hear the bassoon and the rest of the woodwind section in action? Explore upcoming performances and get your tickets at ScottsdaleSymphonicOrchestra.org/concerts.

🎶 Your First Orchestra Concert? Just Come and Enjoy the Music.

Think classical music is only for people who know a lot about it? Artistic Director and Conductor Desmond Siu has a different perspective. 💛

His advice to first-time concertgoers? Come with an open mind and enjoy the music for what it is.

You don't need to know the composers, recognize every instrument, or understand the technical details. It's about being present, feeling the emotions, and letting the music move you.

As Desmond reminds us, it's all about the experience: the sound, the feelings, and the emotions that come alive when you listen.

✨ Your first symphony concert doesn't have to be complicated. Just come as you are.
