Power Paws was one of 63 nonprofits honored on Friday, May 8, as recipients of The Derrick Hall President’s Circle (DHPC) grant. Festivities included a pre-game reception and on-field recognition prior to the game. Power Paws received $5,000 from DHCP, which will be used for supplies, including vaccines and health screenings, for service dogs in training.

Power Paws service dogs heading through security at Sky Harbor International Airport as part of practice training for fosters on how to take dogs through security. Along with training for airports, Power Paws also helps American Airlines and others with “Puppies In Flight”, which enables assistance dogs from ADI accredited organizations in the US and Canada to fly in the cabin free of charge.

Power Paws is looking for volunteers!

We’re seeking skilled volunteers to assist us with our mission of training and placing service dogs for individuals with PTSD, Type 1 diabetes, and children and adults with disabilities. It takes on average 24 months to train a service dog and place it with a client, with training starting for puppies at two months and ending with placement around 24 months.

Throughout the process, our volunteers are on hand to raise or sit puppies when they aren’t training, transporting pups and active service dogs for vet visits, and help at the Power Paws offices with record keeping and events support.

We are seeking volunteers who have experience with special needs adults and children and veterinarian clinical experience. If you’re interested in volunteering, send an email to [email protected] or click the link above our address in the bio and click "General Information Inquiry" to sign up!

National Volunteer Week is April 19-25 this year, and to celebrate, Power Paws is kicking off a new blog series on the volunteers who have helped us throughout the years. Called “Volunteer Spotlight”, the series will highlight our volunteer dog fosters, sitters, and more people who are the strength behind Power Paws.

To begin, we shine the spotlight on Don and Camille Price, volunteer fosters and dog adoptees who also work at Power Paws’ current home, Ability360. Check the link in bio to read more.

Power Paws would like to thank those who donated for this past week. With your help, we were able to raise $56,700 to go towards our Second Chance Apprenticeship Program. “Second Chance” teaches disabled adults how to train service dogs, ensuring that more rescue and shelter dogs find forever homes.
Donations are still open for this two-year apprenticeship program for its duration. To donate, head to the azgives.org website, click on “donate” and search for “Power Paws Assistance Dogs.”

Also, stay tuned for updates on the Second Chance program!
