About the Program:
Associations compete. They compete for members, employees, volunteers, and sponsors. They compete with one another, with businesses, with government, or all three. To survive and thrive, they need a competitive strategy. One way to compete is to be different in a way that causes members (or employees, or volunteers, or sponsors) to prefer you to your competitors. As compared to your competitors, you can do something unique, do something uniquely well, or both. Innovation methods help you find ways to be unique. Creative problem-solving methods help you find ways to do something uniquely well.
In this talk, Kevin Holt will explain a five-step process for creating a differentiation strategy: 1) use segmentation to identify the target of your strategy, 2) do workshops and research to understand your existing strategy (you have one, whether you know it or not), then map it on the “as is” strategy canvas, 3) use innovation and creative problem-solving methods to devise your new strategy, then map it on the “to be” strategy canvas, 4) create a value proposition that highlights the key benefit imparted by your differentiators, and 5) design the activity system that will implement your strategy.
