Within the sacred walls of Arulmigu Veerateshwarar Temple in Tamil Nadu rests a divine mystery where a murti of Devi whose eyes were never carved by human hands, yet appeared on their own by grace divine. It is said that the murti of Devi was completed in every detail, with only the sacred Netra-opening ceremony left to be performed the following day. But when the priests and shilpis returned the next morning, they stood in awe as Her eyes had already appeared on their own.
Even today, Her gaze looks astonishingly lifelike, complete with the natural white of the eyes, despite the entire murti being carved from pure black granite.
This ancient temple is also sanctified by the footsteps of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi, who spent time here during his sacred journey toward Arunachala and self-realization.
Every sacred temple carries stories like these, passed through generations, reminding us why preserving and protecting these timeless spaces is so important for the future of our spiritual and cultural heritage. To learn more, visit: https://behindeverytemple.org
