Join the AFWA Valley of the Sun Chapter for a special Virtual Lunch & Learn and Movie Night on Tuesday August 25th. Shelby Williams will present Harkins Theatres: Behind the Scenes - The Business & Accounting Behind Your Movie Night. What really happens financially after you buy a movie ticket? Take a behind the scenes look at Harkins Theatres and explore the business and accounting behind the moviegoing experience - from admissions and concessions to film rent, advertising, inventory, cash management, forecasting, and financial decision making. This session will examine how Finance & Accounting support a complex, multi-location entertainment business while keeping the focus on generally applicable industry and accounting concepts.

Our chapter celebrated another year at our Installation and Recognition Brunch on Saturday at Arcadia Farms Cafe. We recognized our Past Chapter Presidents, Perfect Attendance including Dorothy Ashley's 40th year, Member of the Year Cathy Young, 2 of our Spring Scholarship recipients, and welcomed our 2026-2027 Board of Directors. Thank you for joining us at brunch and throughout the year. We are looking forward to another successful year of networking, education, leadership building, and community impact.

Congratulations to Marcy Maslov, Founder of Empowerment Unlimited Coaching, LLC and Creator of e-Factor!® ethics board game. Marcy was recognized as one of the finalists for the BBB Torch Awards for Ethics in Arizona and last week won her category. Her speech included several examples of the challenges and rewards of standing for her values. Good reminders for all of us as we strive to build strong and ethical businesses.

Marcy is a past Chapter President of the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance Phoenix Chapter where we support women in all fields of accounting and finance to step confidently into leadership roles. She is also our go-to-person for a fun and informative ethics CPE experience for local CPAs. (Her next workshop is Friday December 5th in Phoenix.) Congratulations on this impressive and well-earned award and for setting an inspiring example of ethical leadership!
