Earlier this year, our Scott County Women's Philanthropy members awarded a grant for $2,875 to the Scott County Partnership, Inc. for their Community Care Hub project at the Scott County Community Clearinghouse. The vending machine is now stocked with free menstrual products, hygiene essentials, harm reduction supplies, and more. Even better - it is available 24/7, helping ensure people can access what they need, when they need it.

This is what collective giving can do! Each Women's Philanthropy member contributes $100 per year, and together, those gifts become meaningful grants that make a difference right here in Scott County. You don't have to make a huge donation to make a big impact...you just have to join with other women who care about our community.

Scott County Women's Philanthropy is about more than giving! Members also enjoy opportunities throughout the year to connect with other women, learn more about our community, and have fun together.

Scott County Community Foundation board member Jennifer Coward presents a check for $1,350 to Englishton Park Executive Director Larry Truax. The grant was awarded from the Chief John Memorial Campership Fund at the Community Foundation and will be used to support a summer camp at Englishton Park in Lexington. The 10-day sessions for children ages 8-12 focus on academic remediation and behavior modification, paired with fun outdoor activities. This year was the 58th consecutive summer camp for Englishton Park.

This fund was established by Tami Wittich in memory of her husband, John, who found his passion of working with children through his job as a camp counselor at Englishton Park. Her goal was that at-risk youth could receive life-changing experiences that John himself was able to provide when he was a camp counselor.

Thirteen years ago, the first Scott County children enrolled in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library received their books in the mail. Since then, about 129,000 books have been mailed to children in our community, inspiring a love of reading and strengthening early literacy.

Many have asked about what will happen to the Imagination Library now that Dolly has passed away. Much like the community volunteers who established the Scott County Community Foundation nearly 30 years ago, Dolly and her team at the Dollywood Foundation worked to build something that will last for generations. Her life's work and legacy will continue to impact children and families for years to come.

In honor of Dolly's incredible legacy, and because we know how much joy it brought her to see children reading, we would love to see your photos of your kiddos with their books!

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton — a woman whose incredible legacy extends far beyond her music. ❤️

Here in Scott County, Dolly holds a very special place in our hearts. In 2013, the Scott County Community Foundation and United Way of Scott County partnered to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to our community, inspired by Dolly’s belief that every child should have books in their home and the opportunity to develop a love of reading. Since then, over 3,550 Scott County children have received books through the program, building home libraries of their very own — one book, one child and one month at a time.

For more than 13 years, Scott County children have grown up opening their mailboxes to find a book with Dolly’s name on it. Those books have meant bedtime stories, time spent with parents and grandparents, kindergarten readiness, and, we hope, a lifelong love of reading.

Dolly once set out to inspire children to “Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More.” Through the Imagination Library, she did exactly that — in Scott County and in communities around the world.

We are grateful to have played a small part in carrying out her extraordinary vision, and we will continue honoring her legacy with every book placed in the hands of a Scott County child.

Thank you, Dolly, for helping generations of children dream bigger. Your legacy will live on in every story.

Jean Robbins presents a check for $2,653.44 to Scottsburg High School teachers Brittany Banister and Beth Walton. This is the first-ever grant awarded from the Kelley Robbins Endowment for Public Health at the Scott County Community Foundation. The permanent fund, which was created in memory of Jean’s husband, Kelley, provides support for his vision for a healthier community. Kelley always had a passion for public health and enjoyed serving his community.

The grant will be used to purchase two Real Care Babies, which provide students with realistic caregiving experiences. The infant simulator dolls offer hands-on learning that can help prevent child abuse and reduce teen pregnancy, while also preparing students for careers in early childhood education and child development.

Donations to the Kelley Robbins Endowment for Public Health are currently being matched 50 cents for every dollar donated. The Wolf family presents a check for $1,000 to the Scottsburg Warrior Football team. The grant was awarded from the Wolf Family Charitable Fund at the Scott County Community Foundation. Joe and Becky Wolf established this endowment fund over 29 years ago, and since then almost $107,000 has been awarded to the community to support numerous charitable causes. Shown are Joe and Becky Wolf, Tammy Wolf, Michael Wolf, the football team and managers.
