But what about TVA’s prideful claims of being “self-funded” and “not at all funded by the taxpayers”?? I guess the only thing TVA can sustain with “rate-payer” money are their inflated salaries. 🇺🇸

The Tennessee Valley Authority applied for and received more than $115 million in funding from the Trump administration to support operations of its largest coal-fired power plant, previously scheduled to close by 2028.

NO TREATMENT NEXT WEEK. Neither TVA nor the WET Foundation will do any aquatic plant management on Guntersville Lake next week. They sent out this statement:

Due to the shortened holiday work week TVA will not make any Aquatic Plant Management Program treatments on Guntersville Reservoir during the week of May 25th through 29th, 2026. Treatments will resume the following week (June 1st).

Today the chairman and co-founder of My Lake Guntersville got to speak face-to-face with the brand new TVA Board of Directors! Guess how many times our eelgrass problem came up in his speech? What a great opportunity this would’ve been to ask for TVA’s help? Funding for harvesters, or to hire local removal contractors, or to otherwise meaningfully contribute? Nope.

DROWNING. Multiple Marshall County agencies are on the scene of a drowning in the Honeycomb Creek area of Guntersville Lake, according to Marshall County EMA director Blake Farmer. It happened shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. A young man around 20 years old fell out of a boat and could not swim. He went under and never resurfaced, Farmer said. The search area is near Goat Island, where Honeycomb Creek goes into the main river. The responders have a command post set up at Honeycomb Landing behind Erwin Marine. Heavy aquatic vegetation is hindering the search efforts. North Alabama Search Dogs have been called in to try to help more closely pinpoint an exact area to dive on. Agencies assisting in the recovery effort include the Guntersville Rescue Squad, ALEA, Guntersville Fire, Guntersville Police and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. “We will continue search efforts until dark, when they will be suspended for the safety of the responders,” Farmer said. “We will regroup and start again in the morning.”

Nothing from My Lake Guntersville?? Crickets?? Remember, My Lake Guntersville is the “startup group” (with very little funding then and now) that went way out of its way to volunteer itself to ink an agreement with the TVA to take over ALL management of ALL aquatic vegetation in ALL the “residential areas” of the ENTIRE LAKE for the TVA, leaving the TVA able to say that they’re only responsible for managing the narrow channels and some public boat ramps. Now, My Lake Guntersville is nowhere to be found in the eelgrass conversation, and has amended its “mission statements” to be mostly about promoting fishing and tourism?? Exactly who benefitted from this agreement with TVA? We’ve been led out into our new invasive eelgrass pasture to fend for ourselves, while most are paying private contractors thousands of dollars to clear enough floating grass so we can get our boats out and the kids can swim for the weekend. Wednesday’s rain might stop you from getting out on the water, but another issue is already keeping some fishermen on dry land: eelgrass.

Surprise, surprise: TVA is almost as good at being a “power company” as they are large landowners. After being exposed, TVA admits all our power bills went up because they can’t keep their power plants running. Yet, they’re shattering records for high salaries and bonuses. Congress needs to investigate this agency.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, which is a major utility serving more than 10 million people in the Southeast, is facing criticism.
