Jackson County
Our friends at the Poarch Band of Creek Indians continue to make a lasting impact on the next generation of livestock leaders. During SLE Livestock Week each year, the Tribe awards scholarships to two young people from every one of Alabama’s 67 counties, helping support their continued participation in youth livestock programs.

USDA’s Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) helps qualified veterinarians offset a significant portion of the debt incurred from receiving their veterinary medicine degrees in return for their service in certain high-priority veterinary shortage situations.

To apply for VMLRP visit: www.nifa.usda.gov/grants/programs/veterinary-medicine-loan-repayment-program

In addition, the Veterinary Services Grant Program (VSGP) is available to relieve veterinarian shortage situations and support veterinary services. There are two types of grants for VSGP: Education, Extension, and Training (EET) and Rural Practice Enhancement (RPE). The EET grants will be made available on a competitive basis to qualified entities to develop, implement, and sustain veterinary services through education, training, recruitment, placement and retention of veterinarians, veterinary technicians and students of veterinary medicine and veterinary technology. The RPE grants will help establish or expand veterinary practices in rural, shortage areas.

Jackson county was entered into the drawing for the chute along with all the other counties that went over the top in membership this past year. Our county was drawn and we won it and pulled it home from Mobile. We are very close again of going over the top and will be in drawings again this next year. Thank you to all of our members and help us go over the top again.
