Panhandle Equality began as a small group of dedicated LGBT individuals & allies in 2015 to host a Pride Picnic. Our first Pride was held August 2015 in Gering, NE where nearly 150 people from 3 states attended. In 2019, we celebrated our 5th Annual Panhandle Pride which drew over 400 people! Born this day on 1945, Marcia P. Johnson. (D.1992) She is an important figure in the LGBTQ and transgender rights movements[b] due to her involvement in the Stonewall riots, her work with Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), and her advocacy for people with AIDS.
