Here's a post from May 20, 2015! And we're still working in Vinnytsia! This is our second year to do Musedics. But this was our start - and we hope to do another Music Camp in Vinnytsia!

Our first Music Camp in Vinnitsa, Ukraine was an amazing success. Our partnership with Community Foundation got us to the "heart" of the city on our first visit. The children, as always, were incredible, as was the teaching team. Visit the Camp, hear the kids, meet the teachers . . . it's all about transforming lives--one child and one teacher at a time.

In just a few weeks, Songrise will travel to Ukraine to conduct a Music Camp for 900 children and youth. “Artek – The Voice of a New Generation,” will bring hope and inspire new dreams to many directly affected by war
We’ve already raised more than half the funds. $10,000 remains—and June is almost here.
This final stretch will cover instruments, teaching artists, and travel for the international team. Without it, parts of the program simply won’t happen as planned.

We are so excited to share this. Not only is this a "dream come true" for these young men and Mercy Ministries-AFM, it is the fulfillment of a dream for SONGRISE INTERNATIONAL. These young men attended our Music Camp in Bungoma, Kenya in November - began with guitar classes - and "now you know the rest of the story." Thanks to our donors - you are the real heroes. Our very first on-location Music Camp in Kenya is now history. So many were able to hold and play an instrument for the first time! In choir they learned five songs in four languages – Swahili, English, Spanish and Latin! These young people tell their own story, and their smiles say it all.

We are now raising $5,000 for instruments in India. We have four orphanages where we have conducted virtual classes for three years. These young people are ready and waiting for guitars and violins. And we are ready to expand to a community center in Chandrigarh.

Your gifts on this Giving Tuesday will give this transformational experience to many young people in India who are waiting for us. Help us reach our goal of $5,000.

What an incredible 10 days - and now I am in Frankfurt airport on my way back to Santa Cruz. The week has been filed with long "high octane" days. I've seen things I could never have imagined - hugged and held children rescued from the streets - and even a baby who "lived" in a cardboard box next to the trash can - in a hospital - until she was rescued and brought into the family at Mercy Ministries. I've heard the young people sing and experience the magnificence of choir - and it has transformed them, given them confidence, dignity and hope. And we've worked alongside Mercy Ministries to impact a cultural mentality that "children are to be seen and not heard" - to the truth that "children say it more eloquently than anyone - and they have a message - if we will only hear them." I've worked in some of the most challenging situations I have ever faced. Yes - we have a "long way" to go - but we made a powerful beginning!

It's going to take some time to process it all - and to chart our course. But there are several things for certain. These children, this community of teachers, this country have found a permanent place in our hearts! The need is incalculable - the opportunity is beyond measure - and "we've only just begun!" Here is a small "window" - enjoy!
