🚨 Arrest tied to the alleged human trafficking of a minor was made right here on the Central Coast. According to law enforcement, the investigation began after parents discovered inappropriate online communication between their child and an adult through social media. Authorities also believe there may be additional victims (link in bio)

This is a heartbreaking reminder that trafficking and exploitation are not just happening “somewhere else.” They are happening in our communities, often beginning online through messaging apps, social media platforms, gaming systems, and private chats 📱

Many traffickers do not initially present themselves as dangerous. They often use manipulation, attention, gifts, affection, secrecy, false promises, or emotional connection to build trust before exploitation begins 🎁

As parents, caregivers, educators, and community members, we must stay vigilant:
• Keep open and judgment-free communication with youth
• Talk regularly about online safety and grooming tactics
• Monitor apps, messaging platforms, and online interactions
• Teach children that safe adults do not ask for secrecy, explicit photos, or inappropriate conversations
• Take concerning behavior seriously and report it immediately

We are grateful for the law enforcement agencies continuing to investigate these crimes and protect vulnerable youth in our community.

Human trafficking thrives in silence. Awareness, education, and community action matter. 💙

If you suspect trafficking or exploitation, report it immediately to local law enforcement, the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888, or the Arukah Project hotline at 831-419-2964.

What an amazing Evening!! We were incredibly honored to receive the Organization of the Year Award from the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce this past Friday at the Awards Gala.

To say we are grateful would be an understatement 💛

This award does not belong to just one person. It belongs to the survivors who trusted us not only with their stories, but with their lives, their safety, their healing, and their hope for a future beyond exploitation. It belongs to every law enforcement officer, advocate, social worker, donor, volunteer, partner agency, and community member who chose to stand beside us in the fight against human trafficking. It belongs to the people working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this community safer for the vulnerable and exploited.

We are beyond thankful for the support, encouragement, and belief so many of you have poured into Arukah Project over the years. Because of this community, survivors are finding safety, hope, and healing every single day.

Congratulations to all of the incredible award winners!! It was such a beautiful evening celebrating the people and organizations making a difference in our community ✨

Thank you, Scotts Valley, for believing in our mission to defend the vulnerable, protect the exploited, believe survivors, and restore freedom

🍻 Join us tonight for our 5th Monthly Fundraising Night at Laughing Monk Brewing!

Every pint poured helps bring hope, healing, and freedom to survivors of human trafficking. ❤️

15% of the evening’s proceeds will directly support the life-saving work of Arukah Project — including emergency rescues, survivor support services, and our mission to open Hope House, the first survivor-led emergency home of its kind in our region for trafficking survivors immediately after rescue.

Hope House represents more than shelter. It represents safety. A place survivors can finally ask, “Where do I go now?” and hear the answer: “You are safe here.” 🕊️

Come enjoy great food, drinks, community, and be part of something that truly changes lives. Whether you attend, share this post, or invite a friend, you are helping bring hope to survivors in our community and beyond.

Defending the Vulnerable. Protecting the Exploited. Believing Survivors. Restoring Freedom.

💙 April is Child Abuse Awareness Month 💙

This month is a reminder of why we do this work—because children are still being exploited, still being hurt, and still needing someone to step in.

At Arukah Project, we are on the front lines responding to that reality every day.

And we don’t do it alone.

We are incredibly grateful for the Exchange Club of Scotts Valley and their consistent support in our efforts to rescue and restore commercially s*xually exploited children.

Because of partners like them, we can show up.
Because of them, lives are changed.
Because of them, freedom is possible.

We truly couldn’t do this without you 💛

🚨 LOCAL CASE: HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN OUR COMMUNITY 🚨

A man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for trafficking and s*xually exploiting minors across multiple counties—including right here on the Central Coast.

📍 This is not happening “somewhere else.” This is happening here. In our communities.

Cases like this often begin the same way—through manipulation, false promises, and the exploitation of vulnerability. What may look like “choice” from the outside is often control, coercion, and survival.

⚖️ While we are grateful to see accountability, we also know this truth: For every case that is prosecuted, there are many more that go unseen. Human trafficking thrives in silence.

This is why awareness matters.
This is why education matters.
This is why we speak up.

🛡️ Committing to standing in the gap, working alongside law enforcement and community partners to identify, respond to, and support survivors right here in our region is one of the greatest tools against human trafficking.

🤍 Take a moment to learn the signs. Start the conversation. Share this post.

Because the more we see it, the more we can stop it.

✨ A Refreshed Look. The Same Mission. ✨

We are so excited to finally share this with you!! 🎉 This moment has been a long time in the making—and it represents so much more than just a new look 💫

There are moments in a journey where you pause—not to look back, but to truly take in how far you’ve come. This is one of those moments for us 🤍

When Arukah first began, our mission was simple, but deeply personal: to stand beside survivors—to listen, to believe, and to walk with them through some of the darkest moments of their lives.

That heart has never changed 💙

But over time, the need around us grew… and so did we.

What began as advocacy has become something more—because survivors deserve more.

Today, we are:
🛡️ Defending the vulnerable through prevention, training, and education
🚨 Protecting the exploited through active rescue and recovery, working hand in hand with law enforcement and community partners
🤍 Believing survivors through aftercare and advocacy—every step of the way

We have stepped into the fight at every stage—before, during, and after exploitation—because survivors deserve to be seen, protected, and fully restored.

Our new logo reflects that growth 🛡️✨
It carries the weight of the stories we’ve held, the lives we’ve walked alongside, and the future we are fighting for.

And with it comes a refreshed website 💻✨—created to better share this work, tell these stories, and invite you deeper into this mission.

We’re also honored to introduce our new tagline:

⚔️ Defending the Vulnerable. Protecting the Exploited. Believing Survivors. Restoring Freedom. ⚔️

This isn’t just a statement—it’s a promise 💙

While our look has evolved, our mission remains the same: to stand in the gap, to fight for freedom, and to walk with survivors every step of the way.

✨ And this next chapter is just beginning ✨

🎉 Major Victory in the Fight Against Human Trafficking! 🛑❤️

In the weeks surrounding Super Bowl LX in the Bay Area, a coordinated human trafficking task force made significant strides to protect survivors and hold traffickers accountable. Across 11 counties, law enforcement partnered with analysts and advocacy organizations to launch nearly 40 operations focused on identifying exploitation and rescuing victims.

✨ Here’s what they accomplished:
• 🧑‍⚖️ 29 alleged traffickers were arrested across the region.
• 🙌 73 survivors were rescued, including 10 minors, with the youngest just 12 years old.

This effort wasn’t just about one event — it was about bringing resources together, using real-time intelligence, and protecting the vulnerable in our communities.

Events like the Super Bowl spotlight both the risks of exploitation and the power of collaboration between law enforcement, nonprofits, and community partners. We honor the survivors and the heroes working behind the scenes to bring them to safety. ❤️

✨ Staff Highlight!! ✨

We are so incredibly thankful to have Natasha as our Deputy Director.

If you missed it, here she is at the Scotts Valley City Council meeting on January 21st, where Arukah Project received the Mayor’s proclamation declaring January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

Last January, Natasha stood before City Council and did something incredibly brave — she shared her story.

Not statistics.
Not theory.
Her story.

As a survivor and leader, Natasha paves the way with courage, bravery, determination, protection, love, and deep care for every victim we rescue and support. Her story is powerful. Her voice is strong. And her unwavering commitment to protecting our community is truly unmatched.

This moment wasn’t just personal — it was a call to action. A reminder that trafficking is not a distant issue. It is here. And survivors are leading the charge toward change.

Take a few minutes to watch. Listen closely. And stand with us as we continue fighting for prevention, protection, and restoration in our community.
