Even after 20+ years in healthcare and hospice, nothing prepares you for when it hits home.
Recently, my family faced the sudden reality of multiple strokes with my father-in-law—one day full of life, the next having difficult conversations about care, hospice, and planning. It’s never easy… even for those of us who do this work every day.
I’m grateful I was able to guide my family through advance directives and next steps, but it reminded me how overwhelming this process can feel for so many.
A gentle reminder: these conversations matter before a crisis happens.
If you or someone you love needs support navigating long-term care, hospice, or advance planning, I’m here to help. You don’t have to go through it alone 🤍

This month we honor the heart, resilience, and transformative power of social workers everywhere.
I want to give special recognition to my number one inspiration, Mary McLeod Bethune.
An educator, leader, and fierce advocate for equity, she founded a school for Black girls with just $1.50 and unwavering faith. Her work became the foundation of what is now Bethune-Cookman University. She advised U.S. presidents, championed education as liberation, and dedicated her life to lifting others as she climbed.
Her legacy reminds us that social work is not just a profession, it’s a calling rooted in justice, dignity, and service.
Because of her example, I chose this path. Because of her courage, I stay committed.
To every social worker creating change in big and small ways , your work matters. Your compassion matters. You matter.

Almost 20 years ago, I worked at Sunrise.
Back then, there were far fewer assisted living communities, but customer service was unmatched. It was the standard.
Recently, while calling and stopping by communities to schedule visits, I felt something missing. Limited follow-up. Little connection. Sometimes, not much willingness to help at all.
And it made me wonder… where did that go?
Today, assisted living communities are everywhere. New buildings. New brands.
But are we standing out where it truly matters?
This industry is about people, families making emotional, often urgent decisions. Yet sometimes it feels like connection has been replaced by transactions.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. asked, “What are you doing for others?”
As an MSW candidate, I’m inspired by the legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune and the power of service. I’m energized by helping people access resources—whether assisted living, homecare, or hospice—so they understand their choices and can make informed decisions.
Community service is about empowerment, dignity, and support. Let’s continue to uplift one another.
