As we enter 2026, The John Shippen Memorial Golf Foundation under the visionary leadership of its founders in honoring and celebrating the contributions of John Matthew Shippen, Jr., a true pioneer in the world of golf. In 1896. Shippen made history as the first American and the first African American to play in a U.S. Golf Association (USGA) Open in 1896.
The Foundation is grateful and appreciative of the continued partnership, collaboration of InterSports, the Shippen Invitational, Rocket Mortgage, and everyone who has shown support throughout the past years which has allowed the Foundation to continue exposing the history of Shippen through lectures, books, etc. and awarding scholarships to young golfers and graduating high school seniors pursuing a career in golf or the business of golf.
