Cow cutting is a sport that grew out of traditional Western ranching techniques of the 1800โ€™s. It requires a rider to separate an individual cow from a herd and control its movements while
preventing it from returning to the herd. Now, itโ€™s become a worldwide sport that helps preserve the image and heritage of the American
west. As citizens of the West, we recognize a responsibility to help prot

ect these traditions, the
character and way of life that makes us unique from all other people. Our individuality, strength
of character, and adventurous nature is recognized worldwide. But, in these challenging times,
we also need to work together to extend our effectiveness as supporters of The American West. Our Western traditions, activities and lifestyles need our protection or they may well be lost in
the dust of subdivisions, ordinances and restrictions. Cutting is a family based sport with strong representation of both men and women. The OCHA
has a well-established youth program, instructional clinics and starter classes. Additionally, the
OCHA is sanctioned by the National Cutting Horse Association and benefits from its many
programs and support efforts. Typical characteristics of cutters include: Use of online and email services, strong outdoor
lifestyle orientations, college education and well above average income. Become involved in cutting and help steward our Western Heritage and Lifestyle. A good cut is a great feeling.
