This weekend, one of our volunteers was out with her grandson when they noticed a woman experiencing homelessness. The volunteer had “brightness bags” (care packages) in her vehicle and explained that she was going to give one to the woman. After he asked why and she explained, her grandson immediately responded, “I should make her a picture!”

He walked to the back of the car, grabbed markers and paper, and carefully drew a rainbow just for her. The care package met practical needs. The rainbow met a different need. It reminded someone that she was seen. As adults, we often wonder how to teach children compassion. The truth is, they are already learning. They watch how we respond to people. They notice whether we look away or lean in. They see whether we choose convenience or kindness.

Children are watching. When we choose love, generosity, and dignity, we are not only impacting the person in front of us. We are shaping the hearts of the next generation. A simple rainbow reminded us that even the smallest acts of kindness can shine a great light.

🗓️ Monday evenings starting June 1
☕️Sun and Shield Coffee Co. Upper Room

Join us for Women’s Bible study exploring God's steadfast love, covenant faithfulness, mercy, and lovingkindness through the Psalms.

Each session will include Scripture study, discussion, reflection, and practical application. Participants are encouraged to keep a journal and engage with the accompanying weekday Psalm readings throughout the study.

Whether you are new to studying Scripture or have walked with Christ for many years, all women are welcome as we seek to know God more deeply and learn to live from His steadfast love.

Note: after an amazing week one, we decided to start at Psalm 1 and continue onward! Some edits to this post accordingly 🌿🕊️

Breaking news out of Jerusalem: the tomb is empty.

Just days after Jesus of Nazareth was publicly executed by crucifixion, buried, and sealed behind a massive stone under Roman guard, reports began spreading before dawn that the grave could not hold Him.

The women who came mourning were the first to witness that something had changed. The stone had been rolled away. The body was gone. What they expected to find was death. What they encountered was the disruption of death itself.

And then came the moment that changed history: Mary Magdalene encountered the risen Jesus personally. Not a memory. Not a metaphor. Not wishful thinking in the wake of trauma. The Christ who was crucified was alive.

This is the headline Easter still carries more than 2,000 years later: Jesus defeated sin, hell, and the grave. The cross was not the end. The tomb was not the end. Death was not the end.

And the first response to resurrection was not silence. Mary ran to tell the others: “I have seen the Lord” (John 20:18).

That is still the message. That is still the call. Jesus is alive. Hope is alive. The tomb is empty, and the good news is still worth telling. Go and tell somebody.

Happy Easter! He is Risen!

For those in Berks County 💜

Did you know? Reading Public Library Main Library recently became an official Safe Place location via the National Safe Place project.

Safe Place® is a national network of community locations — like schools, fire stations, libraries, and businesses — where youth in crisis can find immediate help and safety. Each Safe Place connects young people with local resources and trained professionals who care. Safe Place gives you places in your community where you can go right now if you feel unsafe, scared, hurt, or unsure what to do.

Youth do not need money, an appointment, or an adult to seek help at a Safe Place. It is a free, confidential, and available service to youth up to age 21.

Our branches are currently working towards obtaining a Safe Place status later this year. Even if this initiative helps just one young person get the support they need, we would be honored to help change someone's story for the better. ❤

This achievement wouldn't be possible without the help of our friends from Mary's Shelter. We are so grateful for their guidance and commitment to swiftly connecting with youth in crisis through this initiative. They are a driving force of making Safe Places possible right here in Berks, and they deserve our unconditional gratitude!
