The Mission of the Folk Art Alliance of Berks, Lancaster, and Schuylkill Counties at the Walk In Art Center to document, demonstrate, educate, and celebrate the folk and traditional arts of Berks, Lancaster, and Schuylkill Counties. Definition of Folk Art (according to the National Endowment for the Arts): The folk and traditional arts are rooted in and reflective of the cultural life of a communi

ty. These vital and constantly reinvigorated artistic traditions are shaped by values and standards of excellence that are passed from generation to generation, most often within family and community, through demonstration, conversation and practice.

The distelfink, a stylized goldfinch, is a cherished symbol in Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, embodying good fortune and happiness.
