An odd story to be sure but one that has many fascinating iterations. If you are looking for a more twisted fairy tale - Jon Scieszka's "Frog Prince, Continued" can be found at your local library. This tale also incorporates some other well known stories and see's how their "Happily Ever After" is going.

The lessons found in "Emperor's New Groove" are parallel to that of "Emperor's New Clothes"; but Disney has found many ways to draw from older stories and turn them into something new for our generation.

Do you have a favorite movie that has a great moral lesson but isn't based on a Fairy tale? A favorite from one of our Gala members, is "How to Train your Dragon", based on the book by Cressida Cowell.

This year we decided on live music - but who would you have play at a "Fables and Fairytales" themed Gala?

The incredible Erika Lieberman, Celtic Harpist.

Coming to us from Westchester County; Erika Lieberman has worked as a musician and composer for over twenty years. Her experience as a solo harpist, a member of various ensembles and folk bands, and her graduate studies in Film Scoring and Music Technology at New York University give her a diverse and rich musical background. Erika has worked as a music director for various theatre companies and festivals in NY and NJ, and is a seasoned renaissance faire and folk festival performer.

Erika plays a variety of musical styles, but specializes in Celtic folk music, Renaissance/early music, and New Age/ambient music. Her original compositions pull from all these styles, along with her own unique touch that has been described as "otherworldly. Erika strives to portray the human experience through music in a way that is authentic, raw, and emotive. She infuses her music with her love of storytelling, and can often be seen performing at themed events such as Renaissance Festivals, Victorian Circuses, Faerie Gardens, Dickens Fairs, and more.

For so much more about Erika, or to check out her music more - visit her website www.erikatheharpist.com to get a taste of just how amazing our evening is going to be.

A couple of chances to come out and hear some live harp music this month! Looking forward to playing a program of Scottish favorites at the 15th Annual Hudson Valley Robbie Burns Supper, and some enchanting fairy tale music at the Friends of Schuylerville Library “Fables and Fairytales” Winter Gala! Hope to see some familiar faces! 💖🎶💖.

While the film came out in 2013, Walt Disney actually proposed an adaptation of the story as early as 1940. Shelved in 1942 due to World War II, it wasn't until the late 1990's that Disney tried to do another adaptation. A few more false starts later, we finally have the now beloved (by some) "Frozen". Aren't you glad they didn't, 'let it go'?
