From sewing your own apron to designing your own mug, tumbler, or other personalized creations, we have some fun opportunities coming your way!

⚠️ Please note: Some of these workshops are 2-day classes, and seating will be limited for each class to make sure everyone gets the best hands-on experience. We’ll be sharing the individual workshop flyers and registration links NEXT WEEK!

WHAT A MONTH! Throughout August, we hosted 7 workshops, along with many individual and group appointments, welcoming 90+ people from Schuyler, Columbus, David City, Bellwood, Morse Bluff, Clarkson, Howells, Norfolk, Snyder and Linwood and even a visitor from California! Across three languages, people came through our doors to learn something new, meet other community members, share ideas, create, and make some pretty special memories along the way.

But what makes us most proud isn’t just the numbers… it’s what happened between them. ❤️

People who may not have known each other sat side by side and learned together. Community members shared their talents with others. Someone tried something for the very first time. Someone discovered a skill they may continue practicing or perhaps even turn into an opportunity someday.

That is exactly what the SCHUYLER MAKERSPACE is meant to be.

A place where people can learn, create, connect and collaborate. A community hub where residents can access tools, equipment and training; where an idea can become a project, a skill can become a business, and a simple workshop can create relationships that strengthen our community.

Thanks to our instructors who shared their knowledge, every person who walked through our doors, and everyone who has supported and believed in this Center for Rural Affairs project.

August gave us a glimpse of what is possible when we create a space where people, skills and ideas can come together.

And we’re only getting started.

4/4 — That’s a wrap on our Basics of Flower Arranging series!

Tonight we welcomed our final group for an evening full of flowers, creativity, learning, and of course, lots of beautiful arrangements!

A very special thank you to Kim Parsons with BeLovely for sharing not only her knowledge and talent, but also her passion for floral design with our community throughout these four workshops.

Four classes, four wonderful groups, and so many beautiful creations! 💐 We hope everyone walked away with a new skill, a little inspiration, and maybe even a new love for flower arranging. 🌷

What a way to wrap up out August’s Basics of Machine Sewing series.

3 workshops, 3 groups- DONE! ✅

Tonight, participants from Schuyler and Columbus put their new skills into action and created beautiful reversible tote bags. From learning the basics to finishing a full project, they truly brought their creativity to life!

A huge thank you to our instructor Mindy Smith and everyone who joined us, supported one another, and helped make the Schuyler Makerspace such a welcoming place to learn and create 💛

Floral workshop #3 is in the books!

It’s been so much fun seeing each group bring their own personality and style to their arrangements.

And just like that… we only have ONE more flower arranging workshop left! Next week will be our final class as we close out an amazing month of learning, creating, and connecting at the Makerspace.

ROUND TWO was just as BEAUTIFUL! 💐

Tonight, the Schuyler Makerspace was filled with flowers, creativity, conversations, and lots of beautiful arrangements during our second Basics of Flower Arranging Workshop.

It’s been so fun watching this space become a place where people can come together, try something different, get creative, and simply enjoy learning alongside others.

A special thank you to Kim Parsons and Kathy Horn with BeLovely for coming back and sharing her creativity and experience with another group of community members.

This is exactly what we hoped the Makerspace would be — a place to create, connect, and learn from one another.

Another great night at the Schuyler Makerspace!

Tonight we hosted our Introduction to Machine Sewing workshop, where participants learned the basics of using a sewing machine while creating their very first project: a beautiful reversible tote bag!

A huge thank you to Mindy Smith for sharing her talent, skills, and joyful spirit with our community. Your patience and passion made this class such a fun and welcoming experience for everyone.

That’s our second workshop of the month in the books, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of August has in store. Thank you to everyone who joined us! we love seeing our community learn, create, and grow together.

¡Otra gran noche en el Schuyler Makerspace!

Esta noche tuvimos nuestro taller de introducción de costura a máquina, donde los participantes aprendieron los fundamentos del manejo de la máquina de coser mientras realizaban su primer proyecto: ¡un precioso bolso reversible!

Muchísimas gracias a Mindy Smith por compartir su talento, sus habilidades y su alegría con nuestra comunidad. Tu paciencia y pasión hicieron de esta clase una experiencia divertida y acogedora para todos.

What an incredible way to kick off our August workshop series!

Today, 16 participants from Schuyler, Columbus, Clarkson, and Howells joined us for the first of our four floral arranging workshops. It was a joy to see everyone learning, creating, laughing, and sharing ideas together.

We hope you left inspired with a new skill to continue practicing—and who knows, maybe even turn it into a profitable side hustle someday!
