Really cool new ideas for Seniors in La Grange? Double Check ✅✅
Crazy, fun bingo with blackout prizes? You guessed it - CHECK! ✅
I want to begin by saying, Thank You. Thank you for choosing to spend your Wednesdays with us. We had another impressive turn out - 41 attendees! It’s only our 5th week to be open in La Grange, we are still in our baby stages, and we definitely feel the love… 🫶
Koopman Catering treated us right with her mouthwatering roast beef and gravy, check out that beautiful beef! Our volunteers made us fresh green beans with bacon and onions - WOW - and everyone’s favorite, Amanda’s famous fruit and berry salad! Sheryl spoiled us with her homemade strawberry scratch cake for dessert, and thank you to Louanna for bringing us donut holes and cookies. Y’all, no one is going hungry at Senior Connections in La Grange, that’s for sure! 🥩🍖🥗🫐🥭🍰🥮
And if Connie Koopman didn’t do enough for us last week by giving us 15 meal tickets for that senior lunch at the Fayette County fair, we had some that missed out because we ran out. Y’all, she is awesome. She said, “I don’t want anyone to miss out that wants to go. You take care of our friends and make sure that they get a ticket!” So if y’all are following, she gave our members meal tickets last week (for all four Senior Connections locations), she cooked a delicious entrée for us today, gave us MORE meal AND she serves on our Senior Connections board. And you know she’s the Mayor of Schulenburg, but I’m thinking she might be Wonder Woman! If you see her, please thank her for all she does for us.
I have been so excited for today’s programming because of all the neat ideas that Carolina Perales and Kelly Ceder-Ryba from the Fayette County Public Library have up their sleeves.
📖 How about a book club?
🧩 Or a puzzle exchange?
🖼️🪑A puzzle area at the library to leave up for whoever passes by?
📽️🎞️🍿A Golden Hour movie time watching your favorite movies from your favorite times, with nostalgic snacks? How fun is that?
❓Did you know they have a technology day once a month? And they will help you get set up an E-reader on any your devices.
💻They can help you with your computer. 📑They will print online forms for you, or your income tax papers.
📚🚙 Still not convinced that they’re literally awesome? How about a book mobile?! Starting out in the La Grange city limits, they will get your favorite genres and deliver up to 3 books a month to your home, for you to keep! Be sure to scroll through the pictures below to show the form that asks for your input. We will pass out copies of the form next week.
🎯On to bingo, Amanda Gifford, the Executive Director of La Grange Chamber of Commerce was there to dazzle us with her bingo skills. Amanda does her own bingo and trivia nights, which normally accompany a b**r or two! No b**r, margaritas for us at the rec center, even though we have members ask 😆. We absolutely have a fun group in LG! Amanda was definitely loud and proud and got our friends going in their riveting games of bingo.
Denise won the La Grange Chamber of Commerce, blackout prize, which was a warm blanket, a cute notebook, and a set of pens - completely on point with our library theme. Senior Connections said they would do a blackout prize, but we had to be quick! No questions asked, you could hear her throughout the room (definitely a plus), and we even did a second blackout game in a lightning speed of only 6 minutes! Tell me she’s not professional! Peggy won the sunflower welcome mat and I’m sure she’s hoping it will bring on some cooler fall weather. 🌻
You know, what can I say? We love Wednesdays in La Grange. If you haven’t already, come check us out, and tell your friends about us. Better yet, bring your friend with you! 🫶
