What does a lake steward do when 17 kayaks and a canoe decide to launch at the same time? She inspects them all!
Between rain showers, wedding guests from the Lodge at Schroon Lake managed a celebratory paddle! All of the vessels were out for the first time this year, so all were “frozen” boats able to launch without a boat wash. The nice thing is, they all took the time to go through an inspection. Thank you to Jennifer, one of our Schroon Lake launch stewards for capturing a memorable day ❤️ and for finding a birds nest in one of the boats! Boat wash station is now open on Rte 74 in Severance...and remember, Clean.Drain.Dry is a NY State law! Prevent the transfer of aquatic invasives into Schroon Lake! Thank you for your help in keeping our lake clean..

Boat wash stations, like the mobile decontamination station pictured here, are the best tool for preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species in Adirondack waterbodies. The process is simple: anything that enters the water should be thoroughly cleaned, drained, and dried as soon as it exits the water. Boat wash stations are available at some of our most popular boat launches, and they make the Clean, Drain, Dry process even simpler; they should be used before and after every adventure on the water.

To see a boat wash station in action, be sure to attend this Thursday's Love Your Lakes and Lands event, happening from 4-8 p.m. at Dewey Mountain in Saranac Lake. Learn more at https://adkinvasives.com/events-news/events/

As you get out there to enjoy the boat, please remember to be respectful to land owners and to do your part to protect the health of our lake. Wakes can damage docks, stir up sediment, upset loon nests and be dangerous for swimmers and paddlers. The recommended distance from shore for boats is 200-300 ft, for wake boats is 750 to 1000 ft. Thanks for being conscientious boaters!

As boating season begins, thank you to all who participate in helping us prevent the spread of invasive species.
For those who are visiting or new to the area, we ask that you visit a boat wash station if your boat has been in any
other body of water within 2 weeks prior to launching. The boat washes are FREE!
Your commitment to the invasive species program helps us protect Schroon Lake. All of us at SLA wish you a fun and safe boating season!
