Schroon Lake Association The Schroon Lake Association is a 501(c)3 preserving, promoting, and protecting the welfare of Schroon Lake, the Schroon River, and the watershed area.

Working for the purity of the lake and the welfare of the community since if was founded in 1911. Since its founding in 1911, the Association's motto has been..."The purity of the lake; the welfare of the town." The SLA campaigned for an East Shore Road; it was involved, with Canadian neighbors, in the first massive campaign against Acid Rain; the Association stopped the use of harmful pesticides

near the shore; it helped maintain the concept of sustainable and environmentally safe development. The Association has funded the testing of the lake and the harvesting of invasive plants like purple loosestrife and Eurasian Water Milfoil.

FERTILIZER and PESTICIDES…are they good for our lake?

Just a reminder to everyone that the fertilizer and pesticides you put on your lawn ultimately end up in the lake. The closer you live to the lake shore the greater the impact that fertilizer and pesticides have to our lake’s quality.

Fertiizers and pesticides make our lawns green and healthy looking but it also makes the alge and weeds healthy and strong as well. What we place on our lawns eventually leaches into the ground water and then the lake. If placed on the lawns just prior to a heavy rain, it doesn’t even make it to to the grasses roots. It merely washes over the lawn and dumps in the lake.

We love our green lawns but also treasure our beautiful lake.

The Schroon Boat Wash Station (Boat Decontamination Site) on Rt 74 is now closed for the season and members of the Schroon Lake Association board took the equipment down and put it away until next year. Hats off the the Schroon Lake Association Board…thank you!
