Last week's update from Dr. Robin Wilde:
Dr. Robin Wilde continues his trip in Africa in the country of Burundi.
I left the hotel quite early this morning for the trip to the upcountry of Burundi. When we arrived there was a great celebration and welcome. I have been coming to Hope School for 12 years, so I know the villagers, faculty, and students. They always receive me with open arms. I love these people.
Today I met with leaders to discuss a recent leadership change and review the budget. We also dedicated the new wall which surrounds the school. This wall cost $33,000 and was funded by the Foundation for Hope in Africa. It was a joy to see the completed project.
I then met with 65 members of the faculty and staff and elders from the village who wanted to question me about certain projects in the future. I then hosted a luncheon for all of these 65 people at a local seminary. The nuns do a good job cooking and this is the third time they have hosted a luncheon for us.
I will tell you more about Hope School when I return home. I've got some great pictures and videos I want you to see.
Tomorrow afternoon I leave Burundi and fly through Nairobi, Kenya to Dar es salaam to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. If there was a direct flight it would take about an hour. Since there isn't, it will take sixteen!
This trip has been extremely stressful in that I have to have repeated COVID tests and complete health documents for every country I pass through. Upon arrival, I have a test and two days before departure I must have another test. If I test positive anywhere along the way, I will be stuck for 10 days. I have spoken with other travelers from the UK and they have told me how stressed they are as well. But so far so good.
I am looking forward to my visit to the Kim Jones house, the orphanage we built in 2012 on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
I will report from there as soon as I have a signal again. Thank you for your continued prayers and I will see you soon.
