UPDATE: Sending three cheers to the donor who signed up to meet both of these needs! And she did so within minutes of the needs being posted! 🤩

Thanks to that donor and all of the other donors who have purchased items over the past week, the wish list is officially empty! 🥳

And even though new needs will arise tomorrow, it is such a sweet sight to see the wish list empty. Even if is empty for only a short time, it signifies that every single need is being met. This community continues to amaze me every day with abundant generosity. Thank you for your willingness to help people who feel like they are drowning under the weight of the obstacles they are facing. You are giving them a chance to breathe easier, and through your giving, you are letting them know that there are people in the community who care about them. Thank you for making a difference. ❤️

Yesterday I added several things to the Amazon wish list in response to requests that were received.

And this morning I am sending a shout-out to the anonymous donor(s) who, between yesterday evening and mid-morning today, went on the wish list and purchased paper towels, shirts, shorts, a dress, underwear, shoes, and a basketball for specific children and families in the local child welfare system. Thank you for stepping up so quickly and so generously to make sure that these requests get met! Because of your kindness, many people who have been struggling are going to receive the things that they need. ❤️

This evening, I am sending a special shout-out to the local woman who took the time to go out of her way in the hopes that she might be able to fulfill three children's birthday wishes.

About a week ago, I shared with you that three children in the Lehigh Valley's child welfare system have birthdays coming up and that the caseworker reached out to see if anyone would like to purchase a gift for each of them. The caseworker told me that each child had shared with her the same birthday wish - each was dreaming of receiving a Nee-doh. 🎁

At the time that I received the request, I had no idea what a Nee-doh even was, so I looked it up and found out that it is a cute squishy toy. I figured that they would be easy to find on Amazon and to add to the Amazon wish list.

But when I searched for the product on Amazon, I was surprised and confused by the fact that they didn't seem to have any of the toys. So I did another Google search and looked up a little more about Nee-dohs. 💻

It was then that I found out that these particular toys have gone viral, causing online and in-person stores to be completely sold out of them. 😳

So I posted something on Facebook asking this community if anyone had ideas of where individuals interested in buying the birthday gifts might be able to find them. But no one seemed to have any suggestions.

But then on Saturday, I received a notification that someone had signed up to donate three Nee-dohs! I was excited to see that the children were going to be getting the presents they hoped for!

I figured that the donor must have spotted a few of the toys while out shopping for something else. But today when she met me to drop off the toys, she told me that she had seen something online that mentioned Nee-dohs for sale at a shop a fair distance away from the town where she lives. She knew that, if she decided to drive to the shop, the toys might be all sold by the time that she got there. But she hopped in her car and headed out, hoping that she would find at least three left when she arrived.

When she got to the shop, she found that there were some Nee-dohs still available! 🥳

Because this donor kept her eyes open for where these toys were being sold, took the time to go out of her way to make the purchases, and spent her money to buy these gifts for kids that she will never meet, three children are going to have their birthday wishes fulfilled.

For all children, birthday wishes are special, but for children in the child welfare system who are going through some really hard things, knowing that someone cares enough about them to make their wishes come true is huge. So thank you to the donor for going above and beyond to show these three children that they are seen, cared about, and worth going the extra mile for. 🩵

This community never ceases to amaze me!

Some requests came in over this past week that I knew might be more challenging to get filled. But because of three members of our community, each and every one of the needs is being met.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, a teen boy who didn't have shoes to wear will be receiving a brand new pair of Under Armour sneakers.

Thanks to another donor who went on the hunt for Nee-doh toys (which are incredibly hard to find now that their popularity has skyrocketed among youth), three children in the local child welfare system will each be receiving their birthday wishes.

And thanks to a third donor, a family in need of a top-of-stairs safety gate will be receiving one; a teen girl in need of bras, facial cleanser, and facial moisturizer will be receiving them; and an older youth living in a windowless attic will be receiving a portable air conditioning unit to keep her living space from becoming dangerously hot during the summer.

To these three donors - thank you so much for stepping up to meet these special requests. It is hard to put into words how much these items are going to be appreciated by the recipients and how much impact your kindness is going to have on their lives. Thank you for recognizing the importance of helping people who are struggling and for giving so generously. You are so deeply appreciated! 🧡

Today there are two unique requests to share with you...

First, an older youth is in desperate need of a windowless AC unit. She is living in an attic without any windows. As you can imagine, the space is becoming very hot and will be unsafe for habitation without an AC unit as we head into summer and the temperatures rise. Second, a local family is in need of a place to live. They are fleeing a domestic violence situation and need to find a safe place to reside. Because the mother suffered significant injuries requiring extensive immediate and long-term medical care, it may take some time before she is able to cover the cost of an apartment. If you have any leads on low-cost apartments in the Allentown area, please reach out to me as soon as possible. And if you are interested in financially assisting this family during their first few months in a new apartment, please send checks to Plesion, P.O. Box 532, Schnecksville, PA 18078. Write "For rental" in the memo line, and we will make sure that the funds are used to assist the family with their housing situation.
