Stephen McComber from the Bear clan has always been connected to the land through the practice of gardening and farming. Throughout his life, he has been a seed teacher and is often a keynote speaker at various seed conferences all across Turtle Island, educating people on traditional Kanien'kehá:ka planting practices and cultures. He is a part of the Haudenosaunee Seed Keepers Society with other Kanien'kehá:ka seed savers. He is now the Chief of sustainability at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake. We can't wait for Schenectady Kids Arts Festival 2026!

Happy Cinco de Mayo to all!
New York Folklore always brings the magic of other cultures to our festival. For the 32nd Annual Kids Arts Festival , they will bring 2 ~ stone carving and fairy tails!
Dr. Anping Liu, shone here with a watercolor, will demonstrate Chinese stone carving, while tradition bearer D’Vonne Faulks will be teaching kids how to braid “fairy” hair, using traditional African American hair braiding techniques and sparkly “fairy hair!”
Both of these artists received Support for Artist grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, which is also an event sponsor of our festival.
