Meet the Speaker: Amy J. Behrman, MD, FACP, FACOEM

Vaccine misinformation doesn’t stay on social media. It walks into your clinic, your workplace wellness program, and your conversations with organizational leaders. How do you respond with confidence, clarity, and evidence your audience can trust?

At ACOEM's Virtual Summit 2026, Dr. Amy Behrman will share strategies for strengthening vaccine confidence through transparent, science-driven communication. Drawing on the Vaccine Integrity Project’s evidence review findings for the 2026–27 respiratory season, and ACOEM’s role in that process, this session will equip attendees to navigate misinformation and communicate more effectively with patients, organizations, and communities.

In Memoriam: Kent W. Peterson, MD

ACOEM is saddened to announce the loss of Kent W. Peterson, MD, a visionary leader whose decades of dedication helped define occupational and environmental medicine as we know it today.

A past president of ACOEM, Dr. Peterson devoted his career to elevating the specialty – co-founding the ACOEM Teaching Academy and the OEM TED Talks series, and serving as former EVP of the American College of Preventive Medicine. As president of Occupational Health Strategies, he consulted with dozens of Fortune 500 companies, and as Chief Medical Officer of Examinetics, he pioneered mobile health testing and medical surveillance on a national scale.

Dr. Peterson also played a foundational role in shaping the medical review officer field. As a co-founder of the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC) and a member of its Board of Trustees for nearly 40 years, he helped establish the standards of excellence and integrity that continue to guide the profession.

His impact on our College and our specialty is immeasurable. He will be deeply missed.

(Dr. Peterson is pictured here with his wife Pat at AOHC 2025 in Austin, Texas.)

Meet the Speaker: Mohannad Saeed, MBBS, MRCGP-INT, LFOM, DOccMed

Workers who split 12-hour shifts between a control room chair and high-demand fieldwork, valve operations, torque tools, ladder climbing, don't fit neatly into standard ergonomic frameworks. So what happens when a planned plant shutdown ramps up that physical workload even further?

At the ACOEM Virtual Summit 2026, Dr. Mohannad Saeed will draw on two clinical cases from his practice in the petrochemical sector to show what dual-exposure MSK risk actually looks like, why it surges during operational tempo changes, and why generic manual handling training is rarely the right primary answer.

Meet the Speaker: Dominik S. Dabrowski, MD, MPH

Substance use disorder is one of the most complex challenges in occupational medicine, and is shaped by science, social environment, and deeply personal factors. What if AI could help clinicians cut through that complexity?

At the ACOEM Virtual Summit 2026, Dr. Dominik Dabrowski will explore how artificial intelligence is opening new possibilities for detecting substance use disorder, tracking patient progress, and closing gaps in addiction treatment – all within a workplace health framework where employers and employees both stand to benefit.

Meet the Speaker: Marco Britton, MD, MPH, CMLE

Causation analysis is one of the most critical and complex responsibilities in occupational medicine. How do you build a defensible medical opinion that holds up in both clinical and medicolegal settings?

At the ACOEM Virtual Summit 2026, Dr. Marco Britton will break down a practical, structured framework for evaluating causation in workplace and environmental exposures. Expect real-world case examples, guidance on applying the Bradford Hill criteria, and strategies for distinguishing work-related conditions from pre-existing factors – all aimed at strengthening your documentation and consistency every day.

Join ACOEM Nov.4 – 6 for three days of expert-led education you can access from anywhere.

In case you missed it, ACOEM and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) released the Guide to Bringing Lifestyle Medicine into Workplaces: a practical, evidence-based resource for employers, benefits leaders, occupational health professionals, and lifestyle medicine physicians ready to move beyond traditional wellness programs.

The guide translates the pillars of lifestyle medicine into practical changes organizations can implement, and ties them directly to the outcomes leaders care about: lower healthcare costs, stronger engagement, better retention, and real performance.

It's also a model for what's possible when two specialties stop working in parallel and start working together. Lifestyle medicine and occupational and environmental medicine share the same goal, keeping people well, and this guide, grounded in Total Worker Health®, shows what that partnership delivers.
