We are an inclusive, diverse community made up of neonatal professionals at all stages of their careers, from nurses considering NICU nursing positions to neonatal APRNs. Our members advance the care of newborn babies born with a variety of health challenges, including prematurity, birth defects, infection, cardiac malformations, and surgical problems—whether they’re at the bedside, teaching, or doing research. For more than 30 years, NANN has supported you and advanced the profession by providing opportunities for members to

- gain knowledge to improve their daily practice. Neonatal nurses have called NANN “home” since 1984, and in 2007, NANN founded the National Association of Neonatal Nurses - Advanced Practice. NANN's latest "From the Hill to the NICU" update looks at what the law requires and how neonatal nurses can lead on this at the bedside, from documenting language preference at admission to advocating for qualified interpreters at every major conversation.

Updated Position Statement: The Effect of Staff Nurses' Shift Work and Fatigue on Patient Safety and Nurses' Health

NANN's newly revised position statement on shift work and fatigue is out. It lays out clear recommendations for both employers and bedside nurses, from evidence-based scheduling and fatigue risk management systems to sleep strategies and drowsy-driving prevention. First published in 2015 and updated this year by the NANN Board of Directors, the statement reflects NANN's ongoing commitment to the nurses caring for the smallest, most fragile patients in the healthcare system.
