, in partnership with HEDNA and , launch a Travel Safe Workgroup to resolve COVID-19 implications for the lodging industry.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, changing consumer behavior and expectations are driving new safety and health measures. From contactless access and sanitation to new search criteria and ratings, content is even more critical to instill guest confidence. The existing content specifications do not encompass the newly emerging requirements to enable hotels to convey the safety and health measures being instituted by their property.

The Travel Safe Workgroup will review existing messages and make recommendations on changes to support new safety and health requirements. Phase I of the group will review the existing hotel content messages and determine where new codes should be added to support the new requirements. The identified codes will be submitted to OpenTravel through the organization's code list request process.

The kick-off teleconference will be held on Wednesday, August 12 at 9:00 a.m. Central. HTNG members can join the workgroup after signing at: https://bit.ly/31xogj0

If you are a member of or and would like to join the workgroup, please contact [email protected]

's 911 Location Communication Workgroup develops a summary of recent federal laws impacting telecommunication systems to clarify how these regulations will impact the hotel industry within the United States.

Kari's Law requires all phone systems to allow users to dial 911 directly, with or without a prefix, and must report the "Dispatchable Location" of the caller to a location likely to be staffed. Section 506 of the RAY BAUM'S Act requires that all 911 calls include the "Dispatchable Location" of the caller as additional information provided to the 911 center with the call.

The published summary goes into further details of each of these laws and the effects they have on hospitality, including their distinct requirements and different enforcement dates. The responsibilities for multi-line telephone service (MLTS) manufacturers, resellers/installers and owners/operators is also provided in the document.
